Bahçeşehir University American Studies Center organized a symposium on 23 September 2013 to discuss Turkish-American relations in the context of education, cultural exchange and civil diplomacy.
Speakers attending the Symposium on behalf of their respective organizations shared their views about the place of education and its value on Turkish-American relations. Organizations attending the Symposium gave information to students and educators about practice-based learning opportunities to develop the participants’ ideas on Turkey and equip them with accurate information about Turks. These organizations were focused on bringing an appropriate perspective to Turkish culture in general and in particular to Turkish cuisine, Turkish music and the Turkey lifestyle. Another focal point by the participants was individual-level relationships. The necessity of increasing cultural exchange between Turks and American through education was emphasized. The symposium offered the opportunity to meet new and different cultures through programs, educational tours and personal cultural changes.
The symposium offered to the participants a new perspective on social diplomacy as well as an opportunity to build up personal networks.
