BAUART Gallery is opening it’s doors with American artist Julie Upmeyer’s “Layered Karaköy – Formed Photographs of Thursday Bazaar” on September 17 2013. Gallery will be open until September 30.
Bahçeşehir University Galata Campus is hosting “Layered Karaköy – Formed Photographs of Thursday Bazaar” by American artist living in İstanbul, Julie Upmeyer.
BAUART Gallery’s first exhibition is composing from three dimension photographs which have printed eight times and finalized as three dimension photographs.
Photographs are in the actual size so that visitors feel like they are entering into a real stage.
This exhibition is not only aiming to bring a new place for art but also will be an inspiration for upgrading artists to open their first exhibition and also aiming to constitute a place for group exhibitions for both artists living in İstanbul and foreign countries.
An American Artist in İstanbul: Julie Upmeyer
Julie Upmeyer is a curator and an artist choosing to use materials we use in our daily lives on streets or in our houses as; paper, plastic, food or photographs. Born in USA, Detroit, Upmeyer is focusing on interactive constructions and territorial experiences. After traveling for three years in India, Germany, Austria, Holland and Greece, Upmeyer chooses to stay in İstanbul in 2006 and continues to produce new art works by adding sculptures, performances and materials. In the same time, Upmeyer is the manager and founder of “Caravansarai” project; which is a place for independent and collective meeting point for artists.
