Educational Technologies of the Future Introduced to the World in London
Technological products developed by the Bahçeşehir College technology unit with the scientific infrastructure of Bahçeşehir University were introduced to the world at the BETT Show in London. Bahçeşehir College Executive Board Chair Hüseyin Yücel said, "We produce the content and technology of education with our own teachers and our own Turkish engineers. Now we have come to export what we produce."
At the BETT Show, an educational technology fair held since 1985 and attended this year by more than 800 companies from 146 countries, technological products developed under the leadership of BAU scientists, such as recycled filament, a hydraulic arm and a solar panel, as well as the artificial intelligence-based digital learning platform Metodbox, attracted attention.
Bahçeşehir University shared with thousands of international participants at the fair, with examples, how it implements the global, high-quality, inclusive and accessible education it provides in Türkiye and around the world within the framework of the "United Nations Sustainable Development Goals".
At the "Global Education for a Sustainable Future" session, Bahçeşehir College Executive Board Chair Hüseyin Yücel and Bahçeşehir University President Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz made important statements.
"WE EXPORT THE CONTENT AND TECHNOLOGY OF EDUCATION"
At the fair, which brings together technology and engineering, Hüseyin Yücel said: "The content and curriculum of education are produced, consumed and sold... In Türkiye, 'educational services' are more to the fore. In other words, services are exported. But that is not what we mean by export here in London. Here, we export the content of education. And we do not import raw materials, turn them into a product and then export it. We produce the content and technology of education with our own teachers and our own Turkish engineers. Indeed, we worked and produced with our educators, our R&D team of about 100 people and the valuable academics of Bahçeşehir University... Now we have come to export what we produce."
Giving information about the educational technologies they produce, Yücel described Metodbox, an artificial intelligence-based personalized digital learning program.
"ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TAKES AN X-RAY OF THE STUDENT"
"Let's say you go to the doctor. What does the doctor do before writing you a prescription? First they run a few tests, take an X-ray and then give you medication. This application does exactly that. It does this in many different ways, but let me explain with just one example. The student installs the application on their tablet or phone. Then, for example, they solve a geometry test. At the end of the test, the artificial intelligence in this software tells the student, 'Your length and area calculations are good, but your main gap is square roots. Work on that.' In other words, it does not waste time. It identifies the child's main problem and directs them straight to the point where they are lacking.
"WE ARE SHARING OUR NEW-GENERATION ONLINE EDUCATION PLATFORM WITH THE WORLD"
Referring to the importance of BAU's participation in BETT Show 2020, the world's largest educational technology fair, Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz said: "We are in London to introduce to the world the innovative educational services and products we have produced through research and development under the main theme of Global Education for a Sustainable Future. Our LabStar product, developed by the academics and students of our BAUSTEM center, patented and with a company now established, is also a proud outcome of our University's support for R&D and young entrepreneurship. With original products such as our STEM Junior Book set and our online in-service teacher training program, we are also showcasing R&D-based university-school collaboration. With our BAU GO product, we are sharing our new-generation online education platform with the whole world. We are proud and happy to represent our country on an international platform together with our young people with these products, which we developed locally in the light of science and under the guidance of practice."
