Measures Taken Against the Coronavirus

Dear Students,

As Bahçeşehir University, we have taken precautions against the Coronavirus (Covid-19), which has frequently been on the public agenda in recent weeks and has become a global threat.

Within this scope, we have placed disinfectant products at many points across our university and made the necessary changes to our internal cleaning regulations. We assure you, our valued students, that we will show every necessary care during this process.

Reading the information text we share with you below will help you stay informed about the process and will raise the level of protection provided by the measures taken.

What is the Coronavirus (Covid-19)?

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that includes the coronaviruses of the MERS common cold, Middle East respiratory syndrome, SARS and severe acute respiratory syndrome. There is also a risk that Covid-19, which has infected a large number of people worldwide and is spreading rapidly, will spread in our country.

How Does the Coronavirus (Covid-19) Spread?

Coronaviruses generally spread among animals. However, some coronaviruses can be transmitted from animals to humans. This is called the spillover effect.

How Is the Coronavirus (Covid-19) Transmitted?

According to research, the coronavirus is transmitted through contact via areas such as the mouth, eyes and nose. Although no results have been obtained in this research showing that the virus is airborne, it is estimated that the virus can survive for about 3 days outside a host.

This contact can occur directly or indirectly when a sick individual sneezes or coughs on you or on any surface you may come into contact with. If you think you are sick, you should wear a mask to protect those around you.

How Should BAU Protect Itself?

  • First of all, you should wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • You should pay attention to your personal hygiene.
  • Do not touch your face frequently with your hands.
  • Cover your face with the inside of your elbow when coughing and sneezing.
  • You can reduce your risk of infection by carrying alcohol-based hygiene products such as cologne with you, and by using the disinfectants next to the elevators at our university.
