Internationalization Activities of Higher Education Institutions to Be Monitored by YÖKAK

A meeting on the analysis and sharing of information about the work carried out by Turkish higher education institutions on internationalization as a thematic area was organized by the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) on 27.06.2022.

The online meeting titled "Thematic Analysis of Output-Oriented Internationalization in Turkish Higher Education" was attended by directors of universities' international relations offices and representatives of TÜBİTAK, the Maarif Foundation, the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) and the Yunus Emre Institute; our University was represented by Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu, Advisor to the President for International Relations, and Seda Taş, Head of the Quality Management Unit.

In his speech at the meeting, YÖKAK President Prof. Dr. Muhsin Kar stated that thematic analyses of the higher education system should also be included in the reports submitted to the international umbrella organizations of which YÖKAK is a member.

Noting that internationalization held an important place at the 2022 World Higher Education Conference organized by UNESCO in Spain last month, President Prof. Dr. Muhsin Kar said that they therefore wish to conduct a thematic analysis of the internationalization status of higher education institutions in Türkiye. Prof. Dr. Kar said: "We want to see the scope, costs and geographical distribution of our universities' international collaborations and how these collaborations take concrete form in the field. We want to monitor what kinds of activities Turkish higher education institutions carry out with which regions of the world in terms of education and R&D agreements, the level of internationalization of universities, the work done under the organization of national and international bodies, and the activities universities carry out under bilateral or multilateral agreements."

Following President Kar's speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Uslu, a faculty member at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, gave a presentation on "Output-Oriented Internationalization in Higher Education." The meeting continued with a session in which participants shared their views and experiences.
