Jazz Days at BAU Conservatory

BAU Conservatory will celebrate the excitement of International Jazz Day with a week-long series of events. Taking place at the BAU Conservatory Pera Campus between 24 and 29 April, the event is free and open to the public.

Declared on the initiative of legendary jazz pianist, composer and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock, International Jazz Day on 30 April has been celebrated all over the world every year since 2011. It was officially proclaimed an international day to highlight the unifying power and diplomatic role of jazz music, and has become an important day of celebration on the calendars of both the United Nations and the European Union.

Hosted by a different city each year, International Jazz Day has expanded its reach to as many as 200 countries over the years. Each year, the host cities become the center of the festival with the All Star Global Concert and educational programs featuring world-renowned musicians. At the concert, held at a historic venue in the host city, dozens of musicians from different countries share the same stage.

In the second year of the celebrations, Istanbul was the city chosen as the global host city by UNESCO and The Thelonious Monk Institute. While many special academic programs and concerts took place at venues such as Akbank Sanat, Galatasaray High School, Borusan Music House and SALT, Hagia Irene hosted that year's All Star concert. The musicians who performed that night included Al Jarreau, Branford Marsalis, John McLaughlin, Joss Stone and Hüsnü Şenlendirici.

Happy International Jazz Day, which allows emotions to be shared with complete freedom and openness.
