Bahçeşehir University Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

Enver Yücel: "We Will Be Among the Top 300 Universities in the World by Our 50th Year"

At its 25th anniversary celebration, Bahçeşehir University (BAU) honored academics who have contributed to science. Expressing his joy at being ranked among the top 500 universities in the world, BAU Global President Enver Yücel said, "By our 50th year, we will be among the top 300 universities in the world."

Bahçeşehir University (BAU) held its 25th Anniversary Awards Ceremony and doctoral graduation ceremony. At the event, academics who have contributed to science through their research and international publications were honored. Doctoral graduates received their diplomas from BAU President Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu. The ceremony was attended by BAU Global President Enver Yücel, Bahçeşehir College Executive Board Chair Hüseyin Yücel, Bahçeşehir College Executive Board Vice Chair Begüm Yücel, Bahçeşehir University President Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu, members of the BAU Board of Trustees, university staff and students. Following the awards ceremony, the 25th anniversary cake was cut. At the event, which featured a music recital by Bahçeşehir University Conservatory students, colorful balloons were released into the sky.

BAU 25th ANNIVERSARY AWARDS FIND THEIR RECIPIENTS

The BAU Social Contribution Award was presented to Prof. Dr. Ebru Canan Sokullu, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, for her significant contributions to social awareness. The BAU Contribution to Science Award went to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Timuçin Avşar, Head of the Department of Medical Biology at the BAU Faculty of Medicine, who has made great contributions to science through his high-quality publications. The BAU 25th Anniversary Special Award was presented to Prof. Dr. Serdar Durdağı, Dean of the BAU Faculty of Pharmacy, who has gained worldwide recognition for his drug research against coronavirus. Prof. Dr. Haluk Gürgen, Faculty Member at the Faculty of Communication, who has shaped social life through his publications, books and scientific work, received the BAU Honor Award. The awards were presented by BAU Global President Enver Yücel and Bahçeşehir University President Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu.

"HAPPILY, WE HAVE REACHED OUR GOAL"

Telling the founding story of the university, Enver Yücel said: "Bahçeşehir University was born 25 years ago on 6 November. Our adventure of founding a university was not easy, but we had great enthusiasm, determination and perseverance. Every year, we worked to be stronger, more successful and more productive than the year before. Our resources were limited, but we were determined and passionate. Our greatest dream was to become an international university. We had said that we would be among the top 500 universities in the world by our 25th year. Happily, we have reached our goal and are now among the top 500 universities in the world. Now we have raised the bar, and we say that by our 50th year we will be among the top 300 universities in the world. Bahçeşehir University is a university with universal values. An education family this large and this widespread across the world has no option but to succeed."

"WE WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE WORK THAT BENEFITS SOCIETY"

Stating that they have worked with determination, Enver Yücel continued: "In 25 years, we have reached the best place we could have reached. But this is not enough for us. For the next 25 years, we have set the goal of being among the top 300 universities. We will achieve this. This year we are also celebrating the 100th anniversary of our Republic. Remember the War of Independence and what was achieved under what conditions. Then we, too, can achieve a great deal with today's opportunities. We began our adventure as a teaching university and are now continuing as a research university. As Bahçeşehir University, we will continue to compete with ourselves, move forward with a contemporary mindset that keeps pace with the times, produce scientific work that benefits society and, above all, believe in ourselves."

Speaking at the ceremony, BAU President Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu said: "Throughout its well-established history, Bahçeşehir University has come a long way nationally and internationally through work that has always contributed to the scientific community. Today, to mark our 25th anniversary, we presented awards in different categories to four distinguished scientists. I congratulate them on their contributions to our university. Today, we are also

graduating our precious doctoral students, our scientists. Earning a doctoral degree after a long and demanding educational journey is a great source of pride. I am delighted and honored to see you here on this special day. Earning a doctoral degree symbolizes not only having knowledge, but also the ability to analyze knowledge, make progress and contribute to society. By earning this degree, you carry the responsibility and the privilege of contributing to the scientific community," she concluded.
