Research Collaboration Between BAU and Lipton

The Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Communication continues its research through industry collaborations.

The collaborations and work carried out last week are as follows:

Lipton has partnered with our university to research "quality communication and meaningful relationships", which experts identify as important elements of emotional health, and the "feeling of loneliness" caused by superficial social relationships. The study was launched with the participation of our Dean, Prof. Dr. Kemal Suher, and Göze İşcan, Marketing Director responsible for the Unilever Tea Category. Having examined these concepts and their effects through its global research, Lipton will carry out studies with scientists from different disciplines to identify how these concepts are reflected in Türkiye. Within the scope of the collaboration, what can be done to build meaningful relationships and the effects of meaningful relationships will also be researched with the participation of different demographic groups, and our faculty will lead the studies. The "10-Year Gender Equality Report Card Research on Effie Award-Winning Television Commercials in Türkiye", conducted in 2018 in collaboration between the Advertisers Association (RVD) and our Department of Advertising, shared its first results with the press and the industry at the Kristal Elma Creativity Festival on 12 October 2018. The initial data revealed traditional and stereotypical roles assigned to women in Effie Award-winning commercials in Türkiye. As a follow-up to the research, another study was conducted over a year to measure the results of raising awareness in the industry, and the progress made was presented on 16 October 2019 with the results of the second phase of the Effie Awards Türkiye Gender Equality Report Card 2019. Carried out over two years, these studies were turned by the Advertisers Association into an awareness campaign against gender inequality entrenched in advertising. Emphasizing that if advertising changes, society will change too, the campaign came to life in Istanbul, İzmir and Ankara with the support of the Advertisers Association, the Association of Advertising Agencies and ARVAK (Outdoor Advertisers Foundation). Ahmet Pura, President of the Advertisers Association, visited our faculty yesterday to share with our students the scope of the research conducted with our Department of Advertising, its results and the change these results have brought about.
