On June 22,2013 Saturday UYGAR (Transportation Implementation Research Center) organized TAF (Turkish Academic Fellowship) program with the cooperation of TÜNİDER (All Universities Association) in our university.
On June 22,2013 Saturday UYGAR (Transportation Implementation Research Center) organized TAF (Turkish Academic Fellowship) program with the cooperation of TÜNİDER (All Universities Association) in B Conference Hall. During the program, the challenges that undergraduate, graduate and PhD students faced with, the opportunities and TAF’s experiences and anticipations are discussed.
Over 150 bachelor, graduate students and candidate students have shown interest to the program and from politicians to academicians, there was an extensive participation to program.
The president of TÜNİDER Mehmet Fatih Karakaya made the opening speech and in his speech he told that in the sense of education and order of business, there are some important issues that we can get from abroad with the power and wealth that our country and society has, we can offer many opportunities to students who are studying abroad and who will be studying abroad. He stressed that our students are facing with serious challenges while studying abroad and in order to overcome these difficulties, we have to adopt institutional approach and get out of political point of view.
Karakaya mentioned that our students who are studying abroad as undergraduate, master’s or PhD students, have to work in different jobs with insufficient financial possibilities while they are studying and with solutions which are going to be developed with institutional approach, our students who are and who will be studying abroad can have internship and job opportunities in their own lines, while they are studying.
Oğuz Kağan Salıcı, İstanbul provincial head of Republicans People Party made a speech in the meeting. In his speech he pointed out current developments and told that youth has a dynamic nature and this nature must be understood.
On behalf of UYGAR Center and Transportation Engineering Department; professors of Transportation Engineering Department, Prof. Tuncer Toprak, Assoc.Porf. Serkan Tapkın Assist. Prof. Aybike Öngel and UYGAR Administrative Assistants attended to the meeting. During his speech Prof. Tuncer Toprak shared his study abroad experiences with the students and told that in the past, education conditions were harder in the USA for students from Turkey, however with today’s technological opportunities, they can even run projects with people from different countries. Therefore, he mentioned that our students living abroad can have closer and more efficient co operations and they have to be more active in this.
Vice President of Microsoft Turkey, Cavit Yantaç also made a speech and in his speech he shared his education and study abroad experiences and told that determination is important in making career decisions and a clear road map must be drawn in the early stages.
There was extensive participation to the program and it turned into a platform in which academicians, students, candidate students and politicians come together and discussed the problems openly.
