Announcement on Hybrid Education Planning for the Spring Semester at the School of Applied Sciences
INFORMATION NOTICE FOR STUDENTS OF THE SCHOOL OF APPLIED SCIENCES (UBYO) ON THE PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED IN THE 2020-2021 ACADEMIC YEAR SPRING SEMESTER DUE TO THE PANDEMIC
Dear UBYO Students,
Because we have to stay apart during the pandemic, we are sharing some information with you virtually and by email. In these difficult days, your health and the health of your families is our most basic priority. We hope that no distressing health situation has occurred for you or your families.
To make sure you do not fall behind in your education during the pandemic, our University's and UBYO's administrators, teaching staff and all employees are making every effort to give you the best possible education under the circumstances, within the framework of the restrictions and rules set by the State and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). We hope we will overcome this COVID-19 scourge soon and be together again as a family. Depending on the current pandemic conditions, our teaching and learning activities in the 2020-2021 Academic Year Spring semester will be carried out as set out below. Depending on developing conditions, changes to this plan may be made by our Directorate with the approval of the Office of the President.
1- All theoretical courses will be conducted online.
2- Our practical courses will be conducted in hybrid format ("partly face to face, partly online").
3- Practical courses in the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts will be organized as hybrid courses, taking into account pandemic restrictions and health rules. A survey will be sent to you to identify students who wish to attend kitchen sessions in person in the kitchen of our North Campus. It is very important for sound planning that this survey is filled in completely by all of you, and we ask you to give it due attention.
4- Face-to-face attendance at practical courses in the practice kitchens of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts will be planned by the Department through subgroups. An online information meeting on this will be held next week.
5- Your decision on attending practical courses must be final. Once planning is complete, adding new students to the list or requests from listed students to continue online will not be possible, as this would disadvantage other students.
6- Theoretical courses of the Department of Pilotage will be held online. Flight training will be completed under the organization of AFA in line with pandemic rules and in accordance with regulations and directives.
7- All theoretical courses will be conducted via MS Teams with the support of our Distance Education and IT Department. We therefore recommend that all students have their own communication devices, such as computers, and internet connections checked now so that they are ready for online education and can receive quality education.
8- Informing us without delay about any problems that may arise during the pandemic will make solutions easier.
9- Thanks to the camera system we have installed in our kitchens, our students will be able to attend hybrid courses remotely as if they were in the kitchen.
10- How online exams will be conducted will be explained in detail by the relevant faculty member in the course syllabi. Reviewing the syllabi carefully will benefit you greatly and keep you from being disadvantaged.
11- Good coordination with your advisor on activities such as projects and term work will increase your success. We recommend that you contact your advisor at the beginning of the semester without delay.
12- Throughout the semester, the library, practice classrooms, centers and other activity areas at our University and UBYO will remain open in line with pandemic conditions, and students who wish can use these areas within the rules. 13- Internships accepted by companies in or outside Istanbul will be recognized by our Departments. Do not forget to complete the paperwork for these. As UBYO, together with our students, academics and all stakeholders we work with, we will continue to grow together and provide good education by using digital opportunities as effectively as possible.
For your questions, you can contact the department heads' offices and the UBYO secretariat.
On behalf of the UBYO staff, we wish you and your families health, success and well-being. Prof. Dr. Ali GÜNGÖR, Director of UBYO
