Innovation for Dyslexia Worldwide
Dyslexia, a neurodevelopmental disorder, is known as a common learning difficulty affecting approximately 10% of the world's population. Manifesting itself through difficulties in reading, writing and recognizing certain letters, this condition can negatively affect children's education and also cause difficulties in social relationships. In this field, where early diagnosis is important, Dr. Günet Eroğlu, who works at the Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, has developed an innovative mobile application that uses today's technology to support children with dyslexia.
"Our Goal Is to Unlock Children's Potential"
Stating that she turned to this field when her own son experienced a similar problem, Dr. Günet Eroğlu said: "In tackling dyslexia, we focused on increasing children's learning capacity by using the brain's neuroplasticity. I set out as a mother, but by approaching the issue scientifically, we formed a professional team. With a team of 10 people, including neurologists, software developers, psychologists and psychiatrists, we collected clinical data and developed algorithms. To offer an effective and reliable product for children, we constantly received feedback and conducted trials. In this process, we carried out hundreds of hours of R&D work and two clinical studies."
"A Success Story Touching the Lives of More Than 5,000 Children in 15 Countries"
The Auto Train Brain application developed by Dr. Eroğlu was first launched in 2020 and has been continuously improved since then. Eroğlu said: "We have continuously improved our technology. For example, we optimized our sensors to enable more precise EEG measurements. We made the user interface easier for families and children. In addition, we designed personalized training modules to better respond to the individual needs of our users. To date, we have reached more than 5,000 users in 15 different countries, from the United Kingdom to the United States, and we continuously update our product with the feedback we receive."
"Usable Anywhere, Anytime"
Stating that the application's easy accessibility is one of its greatest advantages, Dr. Eroğlu said: "Alphabet and learning exercises done after 30 minutes of brain training provide greater benefit. We have also integrated an additional application that teaches the alphabet for our users. When this system is used 21 times or more, it provides a positive improvement in increasing cognitive capacity. For the product to provide maximum benefit, regular use for 6 to 9 months, at least 3 days a week for 15 to 20 minutes, is recommended."
The work of Dr. Günet Eroğlu and her team continues to offer an innovative solution to help individuals with dyslexia overcome the difficulties they face and fully realize their potential. Developed at Bahçeşehir University, this technology continues to be a new ray of hope for children around the world.
