World-Renowned Grotowski Institute at BAU Conservatory in December

The Grotowski Institute, the world-renowned arts institution in Poland, is back in Istanbul. Hosted by the Bahçeşehir University Conservatory, the Institute will hold a new workshop at the BAU Pera Campus throughout the second week of December.

The collaboration between the Wrocław-based Grotowski Institute (Instytut im. Jerzego Grotowskiego) and the BAU Conservatory continues. The Institute, which drew great interest in July 2021 with its four-day "Body Constitution" workshop open not only to conservatory students but to all actors in Türkiye, will this time hold a new workshop at the BAU Pera Campus throughout the second week of December.

Throughout the international interactive "Body Constitution" training series, instructors from the Grotowski Institute will carry out experimental "theater laboratory" work focusing on body, voice and spirit with a minimalist approach to staging. One of the schools that most influenced 20th-century theater training, the Grotowski technique, with its intense physical mastery, effective use of the body and philosophy of poor theater, still has an impact among performing artists. Impressed by Türkiye's history and richness: Performing Arts faculty member Dr. Sercan Özinan, who said that the BAU Conservatory maintains an international approach to education, stated: "Our ties with the Grotowski Institute were strengthened by the workshop we held last summer. They are highly meticulous, innovative instructors who are open to exploration.

They are also impressed by Türkiye's historical and cultural richness, especially Anatolian folk songs and dances. Those trainings were attended not only by our students but also by conservatory students from all over Türkiye, and everyone left very satisfied. With the current workshop, we are accelerating the process with an increasingly international approach. Soon we will expand this workshop with our French and Greek partners. Above all, we are moving decisively toward an international campus environment and new collaborations so that world-class performers can be trained in the heart of Istanbul."
