Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Law Pays Educational Visit to the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights

In line with its educational vision in international law, the Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Law held its traditional Strasbourg International Institutions and Courts training program on 5-11 May 2025. Examining the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on site as part of the visit, participants had the opportunity to obtain first-hand information on the fundamental European human rights protection mechanisms directly from senior lawyers working within these mechanisms.

In the first days of the visit, participants were informed about the structure and responsibilities of the units of the Council of Europe and how the principles of the rule of law are protected across Europe. Participants attended presentations and briefing sessions on the functioning and organs of the Council of Europe and the execution of judgments under the European Convention on Human Rights.

One of the highlights of the visit was following the Grand Chamber hearing in Yasak v. Türkiye at the European Court of Human Rights on 7 May 2025. Participants were able to directly observe the ECHR's procedures, the oral pleadings of the parties represented by internationally renowned lawyers and the questions raised by the judges during the hearing. This experience was as instructive as it was inspiring, especially for participants working or planning to work in human rights law.

With its approach that prioritizes putting international law education into practice, the Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Law will continue to organize such visits in the future to give its students a global perspective.
