Faculty of Medicine First-Year Orientation Program
Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Medicine welcomes first-year students who are beginning their academic journey in the new academic year with the First-Year Orientation Program. Designed to help students make a well-informed and well-prepared start to university life, academic processes, and medical education, the program will be held at the Göztepe Campus SB Conference Hall at 10:00 a.m.
The first days of university life represent an important period for students, as they not only become acquainted with a new academic environment but also encounter new responsibilities, study methods, and learning processes. This is particularly important in medical education, which involves a demanding and long-term course of study. Becoming familiar with the School’s academic structure, educational processes, and available opportunities at an early stage plays a significant role in helping students adapt successfully. With this in mind, the orientation program aims to ensure that students begin their educational journey at Bahçeşehir University School of Medicine with confidence, awareness, and a clear understanding of what lies ahead.
As part of the program, students will receive information about the educational journey from their first day at the Faculty of Medicine through graduation, the School’s academic structure, the first-year curriculum, and key aspects of university life. They will also have the opportunity to learn about the academic, social, and institutional opportunities available to them as Bahçeşehir University students.
In the first session of the program, Dr. Önder ERTEM will deliver a talk entitled “From the First Step to Graduation,” sharing his insights into the educational journey that students are about to begin at the School of Medicine. He will be followed by Prof. Dr. Gülden ÇELİK, Head of the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, who will meet with students and share her perspectives on the basic sciences component of medical education and the academic process.
Prof. Dr. Adnan KAYA, Dean of Bahçeşehir University School of Medicine, will also welcome the new students and share his reflections on the School’s educational approach, expectations of students, and the academic and professional responsibilities associated with the journey toward becoming a physician.
Another important focus of the orientation program will be introducing students not only to academic processes but also to student life at Bahçeşehir University and the opportunities available to them. In this context, Dr. Ömer VATANARTIRAN, Dean of Students, will deliver a presentation entitled “Being a Student at BAU,” highlighting key aspects of university life.
The program will continue with an address by Prof. Dr. Ahmet BEŞKESE, Vice Rector of Bahçeşehir University. This session will provide students with an opportunity to gain a broader understanding of Bahçeşehir University’s institutional and academic structure, alongside the academic journey awaiting them at the School of Medicine.
Academic and Administrative Processes to Be Introduced to Students
The orientation program will continue with informative sessions on the academic and administrative processes that students will encounter throughout their education.
Nihal VATANDAŞ, Assistant Specialist at the School of Medicine Student Affairs Office, will deliver a presentation entitled “Student Affairs and Academic Processes,” providing students with information on essential student affairs procedures and the academic processes they will encounter throughout their studies.
Regarding access to scientific and academic resources—an essential component of medical education—Erdem KARAASLAN, Electronic Resources and Digital Services Specialist, will deliver a presentation entitled “Library Use and Borrowing Procedures.” During this session, students will learn about the University’s library services, electronic resources, and borrowing procedures.
In the final session of the program, Dr. Betül ŞAHİN, First-Year Coordinator at BAU School of Medicine, will deliver a presentation entitled “The School of Medicine and the First Year,” focusing specifically on the academic processes students will encounter during their first year. The session will address adapting to medical education, the structure of the first year, and key points students should keep in mind throughout their educational journey.
