First Step into Clinical Practice: BAU Faculty of Medicine Holds Internship Orientation Program
Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Medicine organized a comprehensive orientation program on June 30 – July 1, 2026, for Year VI students embarking on one of the most significant stages of their medical education—the internship year. The two-day program was designed to help students make a strong start to their clinical training, facilitate their adaptation to the hospital environment, and prepare them for the professional responsibilities they will undertake as future physicians.
On the first day of the program, following the opening remarks delivered by the administrators of Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Medicine and its affiliated teaching hospital, students attended a series of informative sessions covering the fundamental components of healthcare delivery. These included hospital policies and regulations, infection prevention and control, occupational health and safety, ethics committee procedures, the conduct of scientific research, employee safety, the operation of laboratory and transfusion services, information security and the protection of personal data, patient safety, as well as patient rights and privacy. The sessions, delivered by experienced faculty members and healthcare administrators, provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the clinical environment they are about to enter.
The second day focused on the structure and expectations of the internship year. The Year VI Coordination Office introduced the overall internship program and its educational framework. Subsequently, the Chairs of the Departments of Internal Medical Sciences and Surgical Medical Sciences, together with clerkship coordinators, met with the students to present detailed information on the organization, learning objectives, and expectations of the core clerkships, including Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Public Health, and Internal Medicine. In addition, students received detailed information about the Clinical Skills and Peer Education Program as well as the Clinical Observation and Peer Education Program, enabling them to gain a clear understanding of the educational processes that will support their clinical development throughout the internship year.
