The 1st International Congress on Trauma Prevention Studies, organized by the World Human Relief association under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ayten Zara, was held with the contributions of BAUMUS and 24 other institutions.
Bringing together NGO representatives, psychologists, sociologists, lawyers, and activists, the congress stood out for its multifaceted and inclusive nature, focusing not only on understanding trauma but also on preventing it, enhancing solidarity, and building a shared future.
Dr. Mukadder Okuyan moderated the panel titled “To Remember or To Forget? Social Memory and the Limits of Healing,” held as part of the congress. During the panel, Prof. Dr. Ulaş Sunata, Murat Çelikkan, and Lawyer Güçlü Sevimli shared significant insights on societal traumas, the function of remembering, the visibility of trauma, and processes of societal acceptance.
In her speech titled “On the Memory of Disasters, Massacres, and Genocides,” Prof. Dr. Ulaş Sunata addressed the concept of “remembering that opens up to hope,” emphasizing its vital role in constructing the future.
As BAUMUS, we are honored to have participated in and contributed to such an inclusive congress. We wish for a just and hopeful future where we heal without forgetting our traumas
