EmpowerHer – Stronger Together!
Facilitating Integration and Empowerment of Migrant Women in Germany
EmpowerHer is a social change initiative developed by Suaad Abdo to support the empowerment and integration of migrant women living in North Rhine-Westphalia. By fostering skills development and building supportive networks between refugee women and German women, the project aims to create an inclusive environment where participants can grow both personally and socially.
Launched under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Ulaş Sunata, coordinator of BAUMUS, EmpowerHer has greatly benefited from the valuable support and consultancy provided by the BAUMUS network.
Designed for migrant women in Bonn and North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as German women who wish to mentor them, EmpowerHer strengthens the sense of belonging and supports the adaptation process through diverse community events. These range from informal gatherings that encourage cultural exchange to structured training sessions focused on knowledge-sharing and mutual learning.

SHEWORKS Project
SHEWORKS was designed to prepare university-educated migrant women from the MENA region for the labor market, with a particular focus on women who had migrated from Syria and neighboring countries. The project was carried out with the academic support of BAUMUS and its founder, Prof. Dr. Ulaş Sunata.
Participants attended a one-week “Competency-Based Career Preparation Program” at Bahçeşehir University. The program provided training on effective CV and cover letter writing, job interview techniques, professional networking, self-awareness, motivation, and goal-setting. At the end of the program, participants received certificates, equipping them with stronger skills for their job search while also helping them discover their individual strengths.
The project did not aim to directly provide employment; rather, it sought to empower migrant women with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the job-seeking process more effectively. By recognizing their own strengths, participants became better prepared to enter the workforce with confidence.
Aligned with the United Nations’ Decent Work framework, SHEWORKS contributed to the personal development of participants and established a strong foundation for their career journeys.
