The 3rd Bahçeşehir University Liver Days, hosted by Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Medicine, commenced on April 5th with an opening speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and successfully concluded as a one-day symposium.
This year’s event, themed “Transplant & Oncology,” addressed the current diagnostic and treatment approaches for primary and metastatic liver cancers, as well as the role of organ transplantation in this process, from an interdisciplinary perspective. The symposium stood out with its high academic standards and comprehensive scientific content.
Leading experts from Turkey in the fields of medical oncology, general surgery, radiology, radiation oncology, molecular pathology, and gastroenterology participated in the event. Through interactive panel sessions based on real clinical cases, multidisciplinary case discussions allowed for a thorough evaluation of the role of each specialty in diagnosis and treatment processes.
Supported by the Turkish Society of Medical Oncology, Turkish Surgical Society, Turkish Liver Research Society, and Radiation Oncology Societies—with the participation of their presidents—the event emphasized the increasing importance of organ transplantation in liver cancers. Practical challenges and alternative management strategies within the framework of current guidelines were also discussed.
Invited by the organizing committee members Umut Demirci, Gökhan Kabacam, Fatih Selçukbiricik, Levent Doğanay, and Hikmet Akkız, approximately 40 academicians from 14 universities across Turkey, including Bahçeşehir University, as well as international guest faculty members, attended the symposium.
International participants included Karim Halazun from New York University, Henrik Petrowsky (MD, FEBS (HPB), FACS) from the University of Zurich, and Silvio Nadalin from the University of Tübingen.
This valuable meeting once again demonstrated the impact of scientific collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches in the field of liver cancers, laying a strong foundation for future academic and clinical studies.
