On November 4, 2023, the "2nd Circassian Diaspora: Politics, Democracy, and Future" conference was held in memory of Papba Sezai Babakuş, hosted by the Bahçeşehir University Migration and Urban Studies Research and Application Center (BAUMUS), with the active participation of esteemed academics and researchers.
The opening speeches of the conference were delivered by Ulaş Sunata and Sevda Alankuş. Throughout the day, four different sessions were held, fostering multidimensional discussions on the Circassian diaspora.
Session 1: Democracy, Citizenship, and the Circassians
Moderated by Erol Taymaz, this session featured Eylem Akdeniz Göker, Ferhat Kentel, and Fuat Keyman, who examined the Circassian diaspora in the context of democracy and citizenship.
Session 2: Youth, Women, and Politics
Moderated by Eylem Akdeniz Göker, this session included discussions by Setenay Nil Doğan, Ergun Özgür, and Ayça Okçuoğlu on the role of women in politics.
Session 3: Circassian Diaspora Studies
Moderated by Ulaş Sunata, this session featured Mehmet Eser, Ayhan Kaya, and Sevda Alankuş, who analyzed academic studies and research on the Circassian diaspora.
Session 4: Why Language for the Future, and What Kind of Language?
The final session, moderated by Melih Taymaz, included contributions from Levent Köker, Erol Köroğlu, and Ulaş Sunata.
BAUMUS will continue to lead such events to deepen research on the Circassian diaspora and strengthen discussion platforms.
