Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Medicine, Bahçeşehir University Migration and Urban Studies Application and Research Center (BAUMUS), and the CHH-Lancet Commission organized an international panel titled “Advancing Humanitarian Efforts” on January 22-23, 2024, at Bahçeşehir University South Campus.
On the first day of the panel, titled "International Humanitarian Diplomacy," the opening speech was delivered by Prof. Paul Spiegel, Chair of the CHH-Lancet Commission. The panel was moderated by Prof. Özge Karadağ from the BAU Faculty of Medicine and Prof. Karl Blanchet from the University of Geneva. During the session, Ambassador Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu, Dr. Hugo Slim from Oxford University, and Prof. Sabina Rashid from BRAC University discussed their diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring the effective provision and protection of humanitarian aid through states, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other actors.
The second day of the panel focused on “Strengthening Training and Research Capacity for Humanitarian Health.” The opening speeches were delivered by Prof. Dr. Ulaş Sunata, Founding Director of BAUMUS, Dr. Melike Yavuz from the BAU Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Paul Spiegel, Chair of the CHH-Lancet Commission. The session then featured international medical students engaged in this issue, providing insights from their experiences and perspectives.
