The exhibition titled "The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean" was opened by the Slovenian Embassy, with the contributions of Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Türkiye, at the METU Culture and Convention Center on Monday, January 13, 2025, between 14.00-16.00. "The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean" exhibition, which was prepared within the scope of the MEDNIGHT project funded by the European Union's MSCA program and will be open to visitors on the METU campus between January 13 and February 14, 2025, features women scientists and researchers from 22 countries, 19 of which are Mediterranean countries, via 32 panels presenting their biographies, spanning from their childhood to their motivations, from their university education to their professional achievements.
The opening was honoured by the presence of Her Excellency Mrs. Tanja Fajon, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, H.E. Mr. Gorazd Renčelj, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia and the President of METU Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatlıgil. The opening of the exhibition was preceded by a symposium where MSCA fellow researchers made presentations. The speakers were Dr. Sabina Cveček, "The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean" Researcher from Slovenia, Burçak Çullu, "The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean" Research Manager from Türkiye and Dr. Süreyya Akyüz, MSCA Fellow and Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) Career Development Working Group Term Chair. The event was a joint organization of the Slovenian Embassy in Türkiye, Middle East Technical University and the MCAA Türkiye Chapter, MCAA North America Chapter and MCAA Career Development Working Group. The organizer on behalf METU was the MCAA Türkiye Chapter Chair, while the three speakers of the symposium were the MCAA North America Chapter Chair, MCAA Research Management Working Group Member and MCAA Career Development Working Group Chair.
There was an attendance of about 40 people to the symposium and about 100 people to the exhibition opening speeches and cocktail. The opening was honoured by the presence of the ambassadors to Türkiye of not only Slovenia but also Belgium, Bosnia, Czechia, Egypt, Germany, Kosovo and Portugal.
