“Citizen Journalism” program organized jointly by Bahçeşehir University Continuing Education Center (BUSEM) and Bahçeşehir University Media Relations Management (BAUmedya) and to be coordinated by the journalist Hıdır Geviş is starting.
Citizen journalism, which is a new trend in the world’s media and has started to gain attention in Turkey through the developing mobile technologies, is now turning into an education program that will make a tremendous impact by its teaching staff consisting of the leading names of the media world. The program jointly organized by BUSEM and BAUmedya and to be coordinated by the journalist Hıdır Geviş will be started on Saturday on February 23rd, 2013 in order to educate the managers, reporters and editors who are already engaged in the sector and also the people who want to step in the sector.
Leading names from the media and business world and academicians from the world’s top universities will lecture in the “Citizen Journalism” program which will last 10 weeks and be held on Saturdays. There are many important names in the teaching staff of the program, including Ertuğrul Özkök, Ahmet Hakan, Leyla Alaton, Erdoğan Aktaş, Emiliy Bell from Colombia University, Le Rainie from MIT.
Hıdır Geviş, who carries out applied practices on citizen journalism through social media, gives conferences in this subject in various universities and will coordinate “Citizen Journalism” program, stated that one of the main aims of this program is to help the integration of media sector to digital technologies and said: “One of our prime purposes is to train the managers, editors and reporters who work in media sector. There are now common citizens with mobile technologies against the reporters with journalism formation. We will help these media workers on how to utilize this new and endless reporter source.”
Hıdır Geviş expressed that they keep the target group of the program wide and said “We think that individuals, those who work in advertisement and public relation sector and those who work in PR departments will gain a big advantage of this program. The reason is that we will teach them how to establish their own personal media through internet, without bearing any cost and having any special technical equipment. Thus, they will have the chance to directly convey their own opinions ideas and projects to large masses and enhance their influences.”
