BAHÇEŞEHİR UNIVERSITY’S APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR THE COMPENSATION EXAMS ( Exams given after finals exams to the students who failed in final exams)
In accordance with the decision taken during the meeting held on 19.06.2012 by Executive Committee of the Higher Education Council of Turkish Republic, it is declared by the head of the Higher Education Council with the article numbered 5854 dated 22.06.2012, the following instructions are going to be operable for the compensation exams.
1) The compensation exams for all the courses offered an academic year or semester, except for the applied courses (graduation projects, practical teacher training, theses etc.), are held on the dates as shown in academic calendar. The compensation exams cannot be given for the courses of English Language Preparatory School and some applied courses that are not designed for short time exams and their structural characteristics. Those courses are decided by the related faculties/ vocational schools executive committee and approved by the University Senate.
2) The compensation exams for courses offered on the basis of academic year, are held before the beginning of summer school and after the final exams of the ongoing academic year.
3) The compensation exams for courses offered the programs on the basis of academic semester are held before the beginning of summer school (if any) and after the final exams of the ongoing academic semester.
4) There are no compensation exams for the courses taken during the summer school.
5) The compensation exam of a course taken from an institution other than Bahçeşehir University, cannot be given by Bahçeşehir University.
6) Any additional compensation exam out of programmed compensation exam cannot be programmed for the students studying in our university on the basis of a certain exchange program (World Exchange, Erasmus Exchange etc.) The exchange students can take compensation exams that are programmed for all the students.
7) For the programs offering education on the basis of academic year/semester, students who are allowed to take compensation exams in accordance with the requirements mentioned in items number 10 and 11 at the end of the academic year/semester if they satisfied all conditions to take final exams.
8) The students who satisfied all conditions to take final exam, but were not able take it, can take compensation exams by fulfilling the requirements mentioned in items number 10 and 11.
9) The students who are not satisfying the attendance requirement or any other obligation ( as W,U and NA) for a course to take a final exam, cannot take compensation exam for that course.
10) Undergraduate students can take compensation exams on the following conditions:
a) Students who satisfied all conditions to take final exam of any course offered in the ongoing academic year/semester and having a grade point average (GPA) less than 2.00, can only take the compensation exams of the courses in which he/she received a grade of ‘ C-, D+, D or F ’ .
b) Students who satisfied all conditions to take the final exam of any course offered in the ongoing academic year/semester and having a grade point average (GPA) above 2.00, can only take the compensation exams of the courses in which he/she received a grade of ‘ F ’.
11) Graduate students who satisfied all conditions to take final exam of any course offered in the ongoing academic year/semester and having a grade point average (GPA) less than 3.00, can only take the compensation exams of the courses in which he/she received a grade of ‘ B-, C+, C or F ’. If their GPA is 3.00 or higher can only take compensation exam of a course if their grade is F from this course.
12) The compensation exams of the courses are given by the assigned instructor of each course. In case of instructor quits the job or is not able to attend his/her exams upon a reasonable and acceptable condition, the decision of assigning another instructor for this his/her exam, is made by the executive committee of faculty or vocational school.
13) A copy of a list of the students who has taken compensation exams are handed over to dean’s or director’s office by the instructor assigned for the course, on the day of the final exam, until the end of the working day.
14) The grade earned from the compensation exam, is recorded as the final exam’s grade of the course of the academic year/semester. Calculation of course grade after compensation exams is done as same way it is calculated after final exam by including grading percentage of semester exams and other activities scores. Letter grades must be in the same range as given after final exams. Course grade must be entered to the OIS system before required last date.
15) Any compensation exam will not be given for the compensation exams for any reason.
16) The students who were unable to join the final exam(s) with an acceptable and valid excuse that is approved by executive committee of faculty/vocational school, can take compensation exam(s) even if they are not satisfied conditions articles 10 and 11.
17) Student who has reasonable and valid excuse (having continuity of excuse during final and compensation exams) which is accepted by the executive committee of the faculty/vocational school, is granted the right to take final and compensation exams when the exams first offered without being registered to the related courses.
