Call for Internships
Anaia/Kadıkalesi Excavations (Kuşadası, Aydın) led by Suna Çağaptay and vice-director Berna Sayar, from the Faculty of Architecture and Design are looking for interns majoring in architecture and interior design.
The site is a multi-period mound with excavated remains mostly dating to the Byzantine period. The architectural remains vary from churches and baptisteries to workshop areas. The site is unique for the patterns of habitation and reuse through the ages stretching from the Bronze Age to the 20th century, and stands as an important site, especially for our understanding of the medieval history of Turkey.
Interns will have an opportunity to examine freshly excavated archaeological finds and to participate in an active excavation, recording, on-site conservation and restoration. Under the supervision and guidance of the senior members of the team, interns will carry out general duties including: examination and analysis of artifacts; doing technical drawing; documentation; cleaning; reconstruction; restoration; and photography of artifacts from the current excavation and from storage. Internship may vary from 15 days to a month and are undertaken from July to August. Applicants should indicate in their application their approximate preferred dates within this time frame.
Applicants must be Turkish citizens and enrolled in the BA program in Architecture or Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at BAU, preferably in the second year onward. Successful candidates’ insurance will be covered by BAU for the duration of their internship. A modest stipend is provided for each intern during their internship. Successful candidates will be responsible for their travel arrangements to and from Aydın. Interns are expected to share rooms with three other people. The board (3 meals per day) will be provided.
