Call for Interns

The Anaia/Kadıkalesi Excavations (Kuşadası, Aydın), led by Suna Çağaptay and Berna Sayar from the Faculty of Architecture and Design, are looking for interns among students of the Departments of Architecture and Interior Architecture.

The site is a multi-period mound with excavated remains dating mostly to the Byzantine period. The architectural remains range from churches and baptisteries to workshop areas. Unique in terms of its settlement and reuse patterns across the ages from the Bronze Age to the 20th century, the site is particularly valuable for our understanding of the medieval history of Türkiye.

Interns will have the opportunity to study newly excavated archaeological finds and to take part in an active excavation, recording, in situ conservation and restoration work. Under the supervision and guidance of senior team members, interns will carry out general tasks including: examination and analysis of artifacts; technical drawing; documentation; cleaning; reconstruction; restoration; and photography of artifacts unearthed in the current excavation and from storage. The internship may last from 15 days to one month and takes place from July to August. Candidates should indicate their approximate preferred dates within this period in their applications.

Candidates must be Turkish citizens and enrolled in the Architecture or Interior Architecture and Environmental Design undergraduate program at BAU, preferably from the second year onwards. The insurance of successful candidates will be covered by BAU during the internship. A modest stipend is provided for each intern during the internship. Successful candidates will be responsible for their own travel arrangements to and from Aydın. Interns are expected to share their rooms with three people. Three meals a day will be provided.
