BAU Faculty of Pharmacy Established

The BAU Faculty of Pharmacy was established to educate highly qualified students in the field of health and to carry out world-class R&D studies aimed at developing innovative drugs against various diseases.

Founding Purpose of the BAU Faculty of Pharmacy

• By training competent professionals for the sector, the Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Pharmacy will make a great contribution to the goal of first reducing the current account deficit in the innovative pharmaceutical sector, in line with our country's 2023 strategic targets, and subsequently turning it into a current account surplus.
• The Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Pharmacy was established to train competent pharmacists who will take part in all stages of drug discovery from scratch, the total cost of which reaches 1.5 billion dollars.

What Makes the BAU Faculty of Pharmacy Different

• The BAU Faculty of Pharmacy will work in close cooperation with the 13 R&D centers at our university and will make intensive efforts to close the gap in competent professionals who will carry out "original drug discovery and development activities" in the sector.
• Understanding the importance of original drug discovery studies will demonstrate that opportunities exist beyond training "community pharmacists", one of the classic goals of faculties of pharmacy.
• The "Computational Drug Design Center - HİTMER", led by the Bahçeşehir University School of Medicine and supported by the Istanbul Development Agency (İSTKA) in 2021, will be one of the greatest advantages of our Faculty. This center will pave the way for drug discovery studies to be developed through joint collaborations with various pharmaceutical companies.
• The BAU Faculty of Pharmacy will demonstrate its difference through its distinguished academic staff, industry collaborations, research-oriented education system, and infrastructure and facilities for education and R&D studies.

Computer-Aided Drug Design Studies

Today, when millions of molecules are tested over many years and only one of them can become a drug, computer-aided drug design studies and artificial intelligence-based drug development and identification studies have gained momentum in recent years in order to save both time and the costs of tests worth millions of dollars. Computer-aided drug design studies will be one of the priority areas of study at the BAU Faculty of Pharmacy. To this end, effective national and international projects will be carried out through qualified collaborations with the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics and Artificial Intelligence Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and the relevant departments of the School of Medicine within Bahçeşehir University.

Working in coordination with the Computational Drug Design Center, led by the Bahçeşehir University School of Medicine and supported by İSTKA, the focus will be on AI-based drug development training, and students will be ensured to master at least one programming language (Python, C, etc.), particularly alongside their professional courses, through compulsory and elective courses.
