Bahçeşehir University (BAU) 2012-2013 academic year started with simultaneous ceremonies held in Istanbul and Berlin campuses.
Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, the Rector of Bahçeşehir University, Edith Cresson former France Prime Minister, academicians and so many students participated in the opening ceremony.
Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın gave a speech in the ceremony and stated that Bahçeşehir University has become a world class university. She gave the students some good news ;“As of 2012-2013 academic year, double major and minor programs have become tuition-free for both scholarship and non-scholarship students. Besides previously earned scholarship rights shall be preserved for in-house lateral transfer programs”.
Rector Şenay Yalçın, said that the budget of Library of Bahçeşehir University has reached one million dollars, the number of faculty increased to 9, institutes to 4, research and studies centers to 14, doctoral programs to 14, master programs to 70, undergraduate programs to 41 and associate programs to 13.
Former France Prime Minister, Edith Cresson also gave a speech in the ceremony and stated that “Even though giant economies in Europe shrink, Turkey keeps growing in an enviable phase. This growing is going on in all fields as well as in education.” Cresson found the request of President of Bahçeşehir University Board of Trustees to open a school in Paris favorable, and added that Turkey is making progress in democratic affairs, but the progress is still insufficient.
Enver Yücel, the President of Bahçeşehir University Board of Trustees participated in the ceremony via video conference from Berlin Campus located in German capital and stated that the foundation of the Turkish-German University was laid and asked German government to release the visa obligation of the university’s students. In the ceremony, in the presence of Edith Cresson, former France Prime Minister Enver Yücel stated that he wanted to build another campus of Bahçeşehir University in Paris, France.
