The "60 Years Success Story: Germany The Second Homeland" panel was held in Berlin, the capital city of Germany, for the 60th year of labour migration from Turkey to Germany, and It was co-organized by the Turkish Consulate General in Berlin, Berlin International University of Applied Sciences, and Bahçeşehir University (BAU).
The panel was hosted by the Turkish Consulate General in Berlin, and BAU Global President Enver Yücel, BAU Rector Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz, BAU Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences faculty member Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Esmer, founding director of BAU Center for Migration and Urban Studies Prof. Dr. Ulaş Sunata, former the Greens deputy Özcan Mutlu, Dr. Barış Ülker from Berlin International University of Applied Sciences, Dr. Emine Neşe Yüksel, and many Turkish citizens living in Germany attended the panel.
Turkish Consul General in Berlin Rıfkı Olgun Yücekök who delivered one of the opening speeches stated that Turkish citizens have made significant contributions to both Germany and Turkey during their 60-year adventure. Secondly, Bahçeşehir University Global President Enver Yücel pointed out that important developments were made in science, art, politics, and many other fields by saying, “We were here yesterday with muscle power, but we are here with brainpower today”.
The event had started with the opening speeches, and it continued with the panel moderated by Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Esmer. During the speeches of Prof. Dr. Ulaş Sunata, Dr. Barış Ülker, Dr. Emine Yüksel, and Özcan Mutlu; the history of migration and its impact on social, economic, and cultural areas were discussed.
Prof. Dr. Ulaş Sunata, on its 60th anniversary, drew attention to the social, political, and economic context and also the history of the labour migration from Turkey to Germany. Dr. Barış Ülker, on the other hand, talked about the effects of immigrants on the city of Berlin.
Özcan Mutlu, the former deputy of the Greens, highlighted the political participation of immigrants and the importance of voters of Turkish origin. Then, Gynecologist Dr. Emine Yüksel emphasized the conditions of immigrant women about their access to health.
