Bahçeşehir University (BAU) Conservatory academic year and new campus opening took place on BAU Pera Campus. Lifetime honorary awards were given to connoisseur actor Rutkay Aziz, folk music artist Ümit Tokcan and pianist Gülsin Onay.
Bahçeşehir Pera opening ceremony attendies were: Bahçeşehir Uğur Education Instutations (BUEK) President Enver Yücel, BAU Board of Trustees member and former minister Burhan Kara, BAU President Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz, Bahçeşehir College Executive Board President Hüseyin Yücel, faculty members and students.
Guests toured the new building before the opening. Students performed special opening shows for guests such as jazz concerts, dance, and theater performances.
YÜCEL: “WE ARE AIMING TO BRING TURKEYS VOICE TOGETHER WITH THE GLOBAL WORLD”
Enver yücel, after stating that they have big goals, said that: “We paid special attention for our students to be from different provinces from Yüksekova to Edirne, from Sinop to Antakya, from Konya to Giresun. We accepted students from every region by their meetings and talents. We are aiming to bring Turkey’s voice together with the global world. We are also going to raise our students accordingly.”
PROF. DR. KARADENİZ: “WE ARE BRINGING TOGETHER THE MOSAIC OF CULTURE AND ART”
President Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz: “In the new academic year, we reconstructed conservatory in the historical building in Pera. While establishing this department, our dream was to present our music, art, culture, and theater background by empowering the local, highlighting its values, and serving it to the world. We also wanted to adapt the things we got from the world to the local. Being in such a historical place makes that dream come true. In the new school year, we are bringing together the mosaic of culture and art through the integrated education program, our international network in different countries, and the agreements we have made with universities and art schools.”
“THERE WILL BE PART-TIME CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS”
Prof. Dr. Karadeniz “In the new academic year, both our youth and our students from master education but also people of all ages from certified part-time conservatory courses we provide publicly, will be here receiving education. All of our venues will be open to both our students and artists for performance. I can easily say that we are a center where people who are interested in art, take it as a profession and a place for people who give their heart to art can come together, so we are incredibly excited today.”
LIFETIME HONORARY AWARDS WERE GIVEN
Thanking the award-winning artists, Prof. Dr. Karadeniz also stated that these three important names are also professors in the department. Prof. Dr. Karadeniz said, “They come together with our undergraduate and graduate students and share their experiences. It is a great pleasure for these masters to be with the people and students who have devoted their lives to art. Students are not just getting the information, they are learning the artist's stance. They see patterns of behavior, way of thinking. That's why I would like to thank our artists who accepted their awards”
ASSOC. PROF. DR SEZGIN: “WE BEGAN OUR JOURNEY WITH INNOVATIVE CONSERVATORY SPIRIT”
BAU Conservatory Principle Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Sezgin emphasized that they are the youngest conservatory in Turkey and said: “We began our journey with innovative conservatory spirit. We think that’s very important, it is very valuable to construct an arts education from local to universal in our country that focuses on digitalization, employment, project, and international relations, we started with this philosophy. We maintain a strong relationship with the valuable artists of our country. For this reason, we are giving the lifetime honor award to Rutkay Aziz, Gülsin Onay, and Ümit Tokcan.”
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR TALENTED STUDENTS
Assoc. Dr. Sezgin said, “We have students in music and performing arts. At the same time, we established the modern dance department. At the master level, we have advanced acting, voice, and jazz programs. We are trying to provide interdisciplinary education with multiple dimensions. We currently have 170 students. We aim to increase this number much higher in the coming years, but our priority is quality art education. We want every student to benefit from this education, so we support talented young people with our Muhsin Ertuğrul and Aşık Veysel scholarships.”
Hüseyin Yücel, who wished a good new academic year, gifted two works from his art collection to the conservatory department. BAU Rector Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz and BAU Conservatory Director Aslıhan Umar received the paintings.
After the award ceremony, many artists, including Gülsin Onay, performed.
