The first opening class was given by ASELSAN Board Chairman and President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün at BAU which started in-person education after distance education for one and a half years due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
According to the statement made by the university, In addition to Görgün, BAU Chairman of the Board of Trustees Enver Yücel, BAU Rector Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz, academicians and students also attended the ceremony.
Commenting on the statement, Prof. Dr. Görgün stated that Bahçeşehir University could be one of the top 100 universities in the world in many indexes, and said:
“Our doctorate programs in the university are exciting. I saw that Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi Uğur Educational Institution as where it is today is coherent with the change, transformation management, and strategy that ASELSAN is trying to do in the last 3 years. We are a technology company that can be called the backbone of Turkey’s defense industry. Our employees are very valuable to us. We signed an export contract that was worth 500 million during the pandemic. It is needed to be understood that humans are at the center of change. It is not easy to keep people, especially valuable people, at a center.
We pushed young generations to take responsibility for disruptive technology topics such as big data, advanced analytics, space technology, nanotechnology rather than just throwing rooted problems at them. But now we are aware that maybe these disruptive technologies can change this paradigm. Our brains that can see the studies, efforts, details done in this field, can also change the conventional approach. Our expectation from the youth is to lead.”
Görgün touched on the succes of Bahçeşehir Uğur Education Instatutions’s Teknofest and spoke about Bahçeşehir University and its schools achievements during this year. Görgün,
“It has 13 rankings on both university and high school categories. I want to state that, we expect our youth to carry this flag, which they took over by protecting our vision, goals, and values, to better places, and that they will strongly represent our country with their success in the national and international arena. Our hope from youth is to lead these things. I would like to remind them to have the vision of renovating not repeating, never giving up on change, to enrich themselves and that leadership is primarily an inner journey.”
BAU Rector Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz stated that they missed their students and will be excited and happy to see them at the school after one and a half years.
Karadeniz remarked that they followed the Science Committee, decisions from the authorities, and developments in the world since the start of the pandemic process and said:
“We established a Science Committee in the leadership of Faculty of Medicine and support from Health Sciences Faculty. Our Science Committee took all the measurements and decisions. There are two vaccination points within our university, one at the entrance and one at the garden. We also provide this service to the public now. We direct both our students and teachers to the vaccination points, voluntarily. In addition, we became the first university to switch to online education during the pandemic. In this process, we both made investments for the quality of the online education process and developed the hybrid education model quality standards.
For our next semesters, we are moving to a higher model in education, combining the hybrid model with flexible learning methods, and implementing a more flexible education and training approach under the name 'Flexi BAU'. In the first opening year of our university, there was a goal stated by our Honorable Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Enver Yücel. The goal of entering the top 500 universities. We are working hard on this path. We got very good news this year, we entered the first 800-1,000 band in the Times Higher Education ranking. I would also like to state that we will continue all these works and innovations without slowing down with a strong team."
BAU Chairman of the Board of Trustees Enver Yücel, after referring to the online education vision of the university, also said that:
“We are a university that continued online classes after a very short amount of time. We have connections around the world. Harvard, Oxford, Johns Hopkins Universities didn't start their distance education for 6-7 more months after our meetings during the pandemic. We have done distance education smoothly and perfectly as a pioneer in the world during the pandemic. Digital education is in our culture. 20 years ago, we made the headlines of "Distance Education from Istanbul to the Village" in one of Turkey's major newspapers.
I had a primary school built in my hometown. We taught remotely from here. As the world changes as the industry changes, first education must change and lead. The development of our university continues. We have not given up on our goal of the first 500 universities. I am also happy to see that. at the point we have reached this year we are steadily moving towards the number we desire. Going one step further from this point is harder than coming here. We are trying to make all the investments related to this.”
