“We aim to reveal the endemic plants of the Black Sea, to taste the local food, and to open the gastronomy of this region to the international arena.”
Commenting on the workshop, UN Advisory Board Member Enver Yücel stated that an area that will guide the agriculture of the future has been established and said, “As Bahçeşehir University working with the United Nations Agricultural Organization, we are establishing an area 2 kilometers from our airport in the Piraziz district of Giresun. This area is a center for implementing smart agriculture that can shape the agriculture of the future. We aim to reval the endemic plants of the Black Sea region, open the gastronomy of this region to the international arena, and have them taste the local food. I hope that it will play an important role especially in the employment of women if we can give our people a study and training about this To develop cooperatives here, to train them, and to give direction we will organize events and provide training together with the United Nations and FAO. We will have fields of application and we will also make them an example in terms of how their hand-made products reach international markets. We aim to show how these valuable plants that grow on these lands can be used in agriculture, development, and medicine in the field of application of our university.
“Small family businesses should be supported”
Expressing that they are an organization responsible for ensuring food safety in the world, Assistant FAO Representative of Turkey Ayşegül Selışık said that “As a technical establishment, we are especially responsible for ensuring food security in the world. Here, too, we need to support our local manufacturers and our small family business all the way. One of the best examples of this is in Giresun where there are large hazelnut orchards and tea gardens. But after all, small farmers also have local products that have access to the market, and they can exhibit these products together here. Especially women farmers and cooperatives. We will share different information and make different presentations to support their proper market access. Leastwise we wanted to organize a day where we would support and motivate them.”
“There will be open space to everyone who is an entrepreneur in the field of agriculture”
Bahcesehir University Rector Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz said, “This center, which we established together with the United Nations, will carry out training and awareness activities for our youth to be present in this sector for the technology, smart agriculture, climate change, legal, and economic development aspects. At the same time, we will support these training with online training as well as in local and application areas. This center will be open to all relevant scientists in this field, all of our young people who want to improve themselves in the same field, to all our women and people who are already in the field of agriculture who want to venture or want to expand their company.
We think that we will create very serious awareness activities with this center that we have established for the first time in the world, and I hope that we will create world brands that will emerge from our country.”
