Maintaining its expanding strategy by opening new faculties and departments, Bahçeşehir University has taken a huge step in the field of health. Having recruited Prof. Dr. Afksendiyos Kalangos, one of the most important cardiac surgeons of the world, Bahçeşehir University is to make the Faculty of Medicine, which will be in operation in 2013/2014 education season, one of the leading research centers of the world.
Prof. Dr. Afksendiyos Kalangos stated that several progress has been made in Turkey in health sector and Bahçeşehir University is one of the leading institutions. “Before accepting the proposition of Bahçeşehir University, I had made some research about the University. Especially after talking to Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, the Rector and Vice Dean- Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç, I decided to serve within the body of Bahçeşehir University specifically in medicine, education and health fields.”
Kalangos stated that medical education in Turkey has reached above a certain level, “I have completed my proficiency in Turkey and I went abroad to do some research. I am a representative of brain drain in Turkey. But after receiving education abroad, it is also important to train our young people who will represent us in the future. We will arrange some programs here and get into contact with international institutions for research center. Turkey and Bahçeşehir University will be the address of information with their capability of producing information. I owe Enver Yücel, the President of Bahçeşehir University Board of Trustees a debt of gratitude who provided us with this opportunity.”
Enver Yücel, the President of Bahçeşehir University Board of Trustees stated that the infrastructure studies of medicine faculty have been completed and also said that “I am happy on behalf of our country. We have reached an agreement with the biggest hospital of Istanbul to build this new faculty of medicine with a different understanding. Our hospital will be active in a very near future. Our faculty of medicine will be one of the most important research centers of the world. Today our faculty of medicine is heading out with a purpose of becoming an assertive faculty in terms of both applications and academic studies. Today I am so happy that Professor-in-ordinary Afksendiyos Kalangos has joined our staff and I hereby welcome our teacher. Hearts require brains. Brains are also needed. Neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç is also world-famous in his field. I am proud to hand in our hearts and brains in secure hands.
BAU Faculty of Medicine will admit its first doctor candidates in 2013 and Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç, one of the leading scientists of the world in brain and neurosurgery will act as the vice dean of the faculty. Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç, the dean of BAU Faculty of Medicine stated that the faculty shall be a center not only serving the patients but also carrying out significant studies in science and added “We will build a Research and Application center in our Faculty of Medicine in Göztepe. And allocate one department for Research Center for Cardio Health. So, the participation of Prof. Dr. Afksendiyos Kalangos has both honored and strengthened us.
50 Students Will Be Admitted the First Year
Bahçeşehir University the Faculty of Medicine is planning to admit 50 students with the permission of The Higher Education Council and it will be the first in Turkey to maintain both education researches and application studies. Hospital services will be carried out together with research activities in Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, the Rector of Bahçeşehir University stated that they will emphasize on research studies in the faculty.
