Türkiye's First Domestic Water Spectrum Measurement Device Developed at BAU
Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade AŞ and Bahçeşehir University have developed a spectrum, Turkey’s first domestic water analysis device.

Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc. and Bahçeşehir University have developed Türkiye's first domestic water spectrum measurement device.

Within the scope of submarine technologies,Türkiye's first domesticwater spectrum measurement device, was developed through the collaboration of Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc.(STM) andBahçeşehir University(BAU).

The first domestic product in its field, the "Underwater Analysis Device for Analyzing the Absorption Capacity of Water" will strengthen Türkiye's hand in submarine technology. The device, created through the collaboration of STM and BAU, was developed and produced by BAU Innovation and Consultancy within the scope of a 1501 Project of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) Technology and Innovation Support Programs Directorate.

The development, which will support Türkiye's recently increasing activity in its maritime areas, will also reduce foreign dependency in underwater analysis through its use in submarines and research vessels.

The device, which will perform measurements in the hydrographic field, will also be used in research vessels and in place of "CTD probes" (depth-based sound velocity calculation) integrated into submarine systems. Its prominent features are its ability to take instant measurements at a depth of 1,500 meters, unlike existing products, its distinctiveness in terms of optical conductivity, and its ability to replace the imported CTD probes used in current submarine platforms.

IT WILL ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

In addition to its contribution to the defense industry, the Underwater Optical Spectrum Device offers a measurement system with which Türkiye can conduct scientific research in oceanography and hydrography. What sets the device apart from similar systems in the world is that it measures the optical conductivity of water in real time depending on wavelength. In measurements made with the Underwater Optical Spectrum Device, salinity, temperature and pressure values at different depth levels can be obtained in addition to the optical conductivity of water. These data make it possible to calculate many types of hydrographic information such as hydrocarbon distribution, the speed of sound in water and water quality.

The most common operational use of this device, known as a CTD probe, is in submarines. The device and the data it measures are of critical importance in submarines' tactical and operational field applications.

After production, the device was licensed to STM to carry out sales and marketing activities and to provide the engineering and field expertise required for installation and integration into submarine platforms after sale.
