Bahcesehir University (BAU) will continue the education suspended because of Corona Virus with the system of distance education. The distance educations, which will start in March 23, will be made through itslearning system and free Adobe Connect virtual class system on the purpose of support to face to face education. The students can directly connect the class through the links that will be announced over itslearning system.
The educations suspended for 1 week because of Corona Virus continue with distance educations. Bahcesehir University has decided to move all classes into the online flatforms in order that the operation can efficienty and effectively make progress. BAU Rector Porf. Şirin Karadeniz, stating that all current classes are prepared into learning management system and trainigns related to current education system are periodically given by the educational technologist to the faculty members in the beginning of the each semester, gave information about distance education system.
“OUR STUDENTS AND ACADEMIC STUFF ARE EXPERIENCED IN THIS REGARD”
Stating that BAU Students are able to access these systems on mobile devices and PC since the first day, and they have used this system, Prof. Dr. Sirin Karadeniz states that “ Our academic stuff make the course contents and all course resources accessible to our students through the learning management system. Since synchronous and asynchronous distance learning courses are also available in our programs, our students and academic stuff are experienced in this regard. With the online education brought to the agenda due to the corona virus, an action plan was created in coordination with the Distance Learning Unit and other relevant units and departments of our university. Our preparations have been completed for the effective and efficient online courses. Also, trainings have been provided for all instructors to update existing system information and to perform more effective course designs based on pedagogy. Along with the trainings, the resources are also prepared to assist our part-time / full-time faculty members in all campuses and have been sent to them after the training. Additional guides have been prepared for our students.”
“COURSES WILL BE TAUGHT IN AUDIO AND VIDEO AS IN THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT”
Stating that the university will carry out distance learning with two different platforms, Karadeniz gave the following information about the system; “Distance learning courses will be held through the Adobe Connect system. In this system, our students and academicians will be online synchronously and, our academicians will teach the courses in audio and video media as in the physical environment. In this system, there are also interactions such as small polls, question-answer, and making presentations. The courses are recorded, and students are allowed to repeat and review the related courses. Also, these courses will be supported by the learning management system; On the platform, assessment and evaluation will be carried out with video and audio, content sharing, discussion forum, and different question types, test and homework. In addition, instant messaging service of the system is actively used in order to enable students to interact with each other and with the relevant instructors. Also, our students and academic stuff are in communication with each other by using the instant notification feature on their mobile devices over the existing system. Our courses will continue with the ongoing program. Our academic stuff conducts the online courses according to the plans made for the current curriculum. In this period, the Distance Learning Unit will participate in online courses in order to ensure that the courses are conducted without any problems.”
Additionally, it is stated that those who want to provide technical support can reach 24/7 Distance Learning Unit through telephone, mail and technical support line. In case of problems related to the system, users can get support through the support line and corporate Whatsapp line.
