A mobile application to guide the field of diabetes is developed by in the cooperation of Bahcesehir University, Yale University and International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD).
“ISPAD Mobile Application” project which will guide diabetic patients by combining health and technology in the fight against diabetes, was introduced to the public. With this mobile application, the data of the World Diabetes Organization will be available to the public.
A mobile application to guide the field of diabetes is developed by in the cooperation of Bahcesehir University, Yale University and International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD). The application which was introduced to the public by launching event organized in Bahcesehir University, determines plan and method for doctors working in this field and diabetic patients in Turkey and in the world. This application which the software process will be conducted by the BAU Faculty of Engineering, will serve to improve and monitor type 1 diabetes.
This application aims to be a personal health consultant which enables patients and doctors to reach all the information about diabetes in a short time, to receive effective and correct guidance, to make healthy decisions for diabetes and to provide information such as proper nutrition, drug use, the latest treatment methods, guide trainings.
“IT IS PROUD TO IMPLEMENT APPLICATION IN TURKEY”
Prof. Dr. Eda Cengiz, Professor of the Department of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes of Yale University, who is a scientific executive of the application, states that “The smartphone app was not available in this field. That’s what we are trying to implement. The proudest thing of this event is that we will implement it with a group from Turkey. With the introduction of this application all over the world, we will serve both the people who treat diabetes and the patients and their relatives and produce solutions for their problems. Another advantage of the application is that there will not be prototype data in the application. Personal diabetes training will be provided by using artificial information for data in the application.”
Cengiz states that “Diabetes training will be provided with the application. We have already developed scientific project to educate non-diabetes specialists. Unfortunately, we did not have diabetes technology at that time. Last year, we tried to provide trainings to many doctors and nurses to raise awareness of diabetes and help patients in India. However, the conditions for education were very limited. Sometimes, we did not even find paper and pencils. This idea came out of here. What we are trying to do is to make the training available to everyone. With the artificial intelligence, we will provide diabetes training which can be used by country doctors in our application. Thus, we will raise awareness to make pre-diagnosis about diabetes and share this diagnosis with diabetes center. We will provide trainings about the process with this application.”
“THE INCIDENCE OF DIABETES INCREASES DAY BY DAY”
Cengiz states that “There are 422 million diabetic patients in the world. Unfortunately, we cannot control diabetes. We cannot provide direct blood glucose control and prevent it from increasing. There are methods which have achieved certain achievements. However, it requires great effort. We should not expect different results by doing the same things. With this application, we think that it can raise awareness about diabetes.”
Cengiz who performs works on artificial pancreas states that “These studies and works should be performed in Turkey as soon as possible. The doctors, nurses and dieticians are very conscious in Turkey in this respect and work actively. I hope that these systems will be approved in Turkey, as in the United States. We have a very successful manpower to perform this. Our diabetic patients are also very interested in this issue. We continue to work for our people to benefit from all the developments in the world.”
“THE APPLICATION WILL BE AVAILABLE IN 6 MONTHS”
Prof. Dr. Nafiz Arica, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of Bahcesehir University, who runs the software process of the application, states that “The application will be available in Android and IOS. The application will serve 5 different users including patients, patients relatives, instructors, doctors and specialist doctors. By using the remote smart education system, we aim to determine lack of information of the users by including question of the day and exams in the application, and provide the training for the users in this regard. The interface of the application is very simple. It will be constantly updating application. With the support of ISPAD, the data included in the application will be always actual. We will create an interface for users with the data included in the application. The application is currently in the software process. We aim to introduce the BETA version of the application within 6 months. The language of the application will be English but the trainings will be translated into other languages.”
