“We encounter many problems in the Middle East”
As CIFAL, UN Deputy Secretary General Nikhil Seth, stated that “We will carry out many awareness activities in Istanbul and today, we are opening the 90th centre of CIFAL. We have centres in North/South America, Africa, Europe and Asia. It is an honour and a pleasure for us to open a centre in such an important region of the world. Today, our world encounters great and important problems. The fourth pillar of the United Nations focuses on social development, political development and environmental protection particularly. Here you see 17 sustainable development goals. All these sustainable development goals actually contain hope, dream and fears for human. In the political context, conflicts are increasing in our regions. We encounter many problems in the Middle East today and unfortunately it is difficult to say that these problems will be solved in the near future. Even if it has been 80 years. There are serious problems in the economic and global development. We also encounter many problems in the social sphere. As CIFAL, we will work with a more peaceful society by working with schools in Istanbul, working with the academy and business sector, and conveying our messages. We hope that with the cooperation of Bahcesehir University, CIFAL will provide the education I mentioned and realize the positive change we want to see in this region.”
“Certainly, Education in Turkey needs to be improved”
Nikhil Seth said the following on the Turkish Education System. “I would like to say that I am very impressed from what I have heard and learned on the Turkish Education System so far. Of course, there are still bottlenecks and problems. Certainly, education in Turkey needs to be improved in less developed regions socio-economically without a doubt. I hope our centre will make
important contributions economically. We hope that we will contribute to environmental issues, especially in terms of youth employment and creating employment. For the environmental issues, these include climate change, chemical and hazardous waste management and electronic waste management. We also aim to contribute to the diplomatic field. Especially, we aim to develop the quality of education for the diplomats in the region and Turkey. Therefore, we have a lot to do. I am very happy to be in Istanbul.
“If productivity is not distributed fairly, we cannot speak of the development in the world”
Enver Yucel, the chairman of BAU Board of Trustees, who has been granted the title of United Nations Institute for Training and Research International Training Centre Turkey President, stated that “Today, I think that it is a very important step both for me and the world. Today, we have become the biggest educational institution in Europe. The source of our success is that we have never compromised our principles of how we can carry our country and people to the next centuries. The world has three main problems. The first is inequality of income and development. The second is environment and ethical values. The third is the culture of living together. The world cannot live together. We made the world a small village. We developed the technology, built all the bridges but we couldn’t build bridge of hearts. For this, the main source is education. We want to provide empathy culture to our children in education. Poverty and inequality of income are the most significant problems in the world. We want to eliminate this with education. We announce growth targets every day, year and month. If these growth targets damage the environment, nature and the future of humanity, this not true. However, there is growth in backward or developing countries, and this growth is based on productivity. We observe that the income in the productivity is not distributed fairly. If productivity is not be distributed fairly, we cannot speak of the development in the world. We should always keep the law superior for the development. We see that it is not possible to develop in the absence of law. I would like to share with you my pride for me and my country. Now, we are ready to provide support and solve any problems in the world with the United Nations.”
