Vagustim device, which is developed for migraine pain considered the 3rd most common disease in the world, collects physiological information from the body and offers a personal treatment method. Vagustim project which is supported by 400 Thousand TL award in the largest entrepreneurship competition in Turkey, will be used in the treatment of migraine attacks.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), migraine which is observed in 1 out of 7 people, is the third most common disease in the world. Vagustim device which aims to prevent migraine attacks caused due to intense stress, has won 400 Thousand TL award in the ITU Çekirdek Big Bang, one of the most prestigious competition in Turkey. The project which is supported by BAUTTO, has been developed by Bahcesehir University Health Sciences Institute Lecturer Dr. Ali Veysel Özden and Ali Can Erk who was graduated from BAU mechatronics engineering and MBA Department. With the device, apart from migraine, the treatment for other stress related diseases such as gastrointestinal disorders and sleep disorders will be performed.
Artificial Intelligence Supported
Vagustim, a medical device used in the treatment of migraine, electrically triggers the vagus nerve in the ear and is controlled by the mobile application through Bluetooth. The mobile application which collects a number of physiological data from the body with the help of a smart wrist strap, combines the data with user data to provide a personal treatment protocol. An artificial intelligence algorithm provides this.
70% of Migraine Pain is caused by Stress
Ali Can Erk who stated that the aim of Vagustim is to prevent the development of migraine attacks due to intense stress, and said that “According to American Migraine Foundation, about 70% of migraine attacks are caused by stress. Stress factors increase the sympathetic nervous system activity and disrupt the balance of autonomic nervous system. The aim of Vagustim is to increase the parasympathetic activity by electrically triggering the vagus nerve, thus Vagustim eliminate the autonomic nervous system dysfunction and prevent the migraine associated with this.

Dr. Ali Veysel Ozden, who stated that “We commence mass production upon completion of the certification process, said that “One of the biggest problems is stress nowadays. Because; stress causes many diseases and discomforts such as intestinal, gastrointestinal diseases and sleep disorders including migraine. Drug treatment of these diseases is symptomatic and may not heal the problem. With Vagustim, our aim is to eliminate the effect of stress factors in the body and eliminate the problem associated with the stress. Migraine is a disease that concerns more than 1 billion people in the world and the complete treatment for migraine has not still found and discovered. We foresee that Vagustim will be useful and beneficial for millions of people in the treatment.”
