“New Approaches in Medicine -1”, organized by Bahçeşehir University Medical School, New York University (NYU) and Bahçeşehir University School of Research Methods (BAYO), brought together leading scientists from international circles to Istanbul. Perry Halkitis from NYU, Theodore Walls from Rhode Island University and Niyati Parekh and Danielle Ompad also from NYU, were some of the names who attended the conference, which was themed around approaching health matters from a biological, psychological and social perspective.
Halkitis from NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, made a presentation titled “Looking at Health through a Bio-Psycho-Social Lens”. Also from the same school, Ompad, gave a speech titled “Psychological and Social Factors in Drug Use.”
“New Models on Heavy Cigarette Smokers”, speech by Theodore Walls, on the subject of preventing cigarette use, a topic also on Turkey’s agenda, attracted a lot of attention.
Niyati Parekh’s speech “Obesity and Cancer: Mechanisms and Intervention Techniques in Adults” and Halkitis’ speech “AIDS: Psychosocial factors in its Prevention and Treatment” were among other speeches included in the conference.
