Bahçeşehir University (BAU) saw 3500 new graduates off in the ceremony taking place in Sinan Erdem Coliseum. While thousands of students were throwing their caps, the families stood with their children on this significant occasion.
In the graduation ceremony of Bahçeşehir University, having produced 18th term graduates, totally 3500 students, including hundreds of foreign students from 64 countries, threw their caps. This ceremony, starting with a mini-concert, continued with the students having their places. Enver Yücel, Bahçeşehir University the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, the Rector of Bahçeşehir University, made the opening speech of the ceremony.
“STAND ON YOUR FREEDOM”
Enver Yücel, BAU the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, making the opening speech of the ceremony, gave advices to new graduates. Yücel, reminding them freedom, the power in their hands, said “Stand on your freedom. Your biggest power should be a free environment where you can take power, produce, and improve yourself. There is no need to sell the sky for freedom as long as you don’t sell your soul. This should be your principle. There is such an example among us named Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.“ Yücel sang the 3rd verse of the Turkish National Anthem with his students.
“DO NOT SPLIT FROM THE LIGHT OF ENLIGHTENMENT”
Yücel congratulated the graduates, the families and the academicians for their efforts and said his students “Find the power and ability in yourself in hard times and do not split from the light of enlightenment.” Yücel, reminding them that school life has ended, but school of hard knocks has started, said “ There will be hard times as well as good times. This road is a rough road, and it will be sometimes problematic sometimes problem-free. You should know that Bahçeşehir University will always accompany you. In those hard times, find the power and ability in yourself and do not split from the light of enlightenment. Guard yourself with the power of culture and civilization. There is no need for anything because I believe you will achieve. Proceed on your way with desire and will, tirelessly, and without losing your enthusiasm. Nelson Mandela said, “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." That’s why do not ever get bored. Have a safe journey! Lots of luck! I’m also proud of being a part of this big family.”
“WE EXPECT YOUTH NOT LOOKING FOR OCCUPATION, BUT PRODUCING OCCUPATIONS“
Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, the Rector of BAU, stating that they are in the excitement of having produced 18th graduates this year, said “I know that our students will fulfill good jobs successfully with the vision they acquired. We expect youth not looking for occupation, but producing occupations. For this aim, they should be courageous, and they should trust themselves, which is so important for us. They should keep themselves lively in a manner that they can renovate themselves in order to work in especially international arena. We trust our students so much.”
Yalçın, stating that they have always been trying to present students with big opportunities on all occasions in order to prepare the students for the future, “ We did planning in terms of preparing our students to the life with the applications of the cooperation of the university and the sector. They graduate from the university with 3-4 years experience in the environment where you will work in future before graduation. We are happy and wish all students success. We can call today as our time of harvest. You give effort all year long and come to the time of harvest. I am glad and proud. “
“COMING IN FIRST HAS NOT BEEN A SURPRISE”
Kaan Özkorkmaz, the student of the department of Industrial Engineering graduating ranking first in class with 3.99 graduation average, said” I spent 4 years to the fullest in university. Coming in first has not been a surprise for me.”
Özkorkmaz, stating that he got into the University with the system of ApplyBAU, “This was a student-centered and especial system. That’s why I spent 4 years to the fullest both in the academic field and in the extracurricular activities. I took place in many educational programs within BAU Global educational network with the scholarship from The Board of Trustees. Coming in first has not been a surprise because I studied my lessons with a big pleasure.”
The student, saying that he consciously chose his field, Industrial Engineering, stated that they took education from the best in their jobs. Kaan Özkorkmaz said “Strategic management and marketing are in my focus. I have been the student of master experts in also this field. It is a matter of culture. Bahçeşehir University is a school having a very dynamical and global vision. This situation is very inspirational for me who aims at carrier in the field of strategical management. I have not spent my 4 years not only with the activities related to the lessons but also in very especial activities and enormous extracurricular activities. The important thing is choosing the optimal department in accordance with the abilities and goals. Therefore, you get motivated together with the precious teachers and friends and being successful is no longer a surprise.
