BAU Istanbul Big Data and Education Center which has been established for the purpose of raising individuals who learn, use and improve the rapid developments in the branches of technology and computer sciences with technical infrastructure in the information age we live in and which is a significant step in the direction of being an information society has been launched with the Istanbul Development Agency’s support in a ceremony organized in the South Campus of Bahçeşehir University.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Yücel Batu Salman, the Director of Istanbul Big Data Education and Research Center of Bahçeşehir University, Prof. Dr. Nafiz Arıca, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences in Bahçeşehir University, the vice-chancellors of Bahçeşehir University, academicians and students attended the ceremony whose opening speech was done by Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, the Rector of Bahçeşehir University.
“WE WANT TO BE A PIONEER OF THE INNOVATIVE AND ENTERPRISING ACTIVITIES”
Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, the rector of Bahçeşehir University, stating that there is a digital conversion in the world and Turkey needs to attune to this conversion for its future targets, said” The world is experiencing a major conversion. Turkey is also a part of this conversion experienced. Turkey needs to attune to this conversion and manage this conversion.
”There is an incredible information abundance in the world. The concept of Big Data which we call becomes a part just in this point. Big Data includes information very much. Therefore, the right use of this information will help up in the stage of making right decisions prospectively. As Bahçeşehir University, we follow the developments in the world very closely.
Hence, we want to be a pioneer in the branch of education in the direction of innovative and enterprising activities. As a university, we have actualized the Master’s Programs in Cyber Security and Big Data. In addition, for the purpose of forming an application area, we are actualizing the opening of Big Data Education and Research Center in our university with the support of our Ministry of Development and Istanbul Development Agency.”
The Rector Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, also mentioning that especially the ones in Bahçeşehir University taking education in the branch of Big Data and carrying out some works in institutions will be provided with very significant opportunities, said that “We want to proceed faster in this respect with both the opportunities within our present potential of our university and other educational institutions under the roof of BAU Global. As one move ahead, we have been continuing our undergraduate studies in the field of data analytic.
At this point, we have started the industry 4.0 speeches and common mind meetings with Turkish Exporters Assembly and Turkishtime.
We have conducted five meetings until now. The question we face during these works is how the movement methods about Big Data will be. Both our country and the people who work for this purpose will be contributed so much with this center.”
LARGE-SCALE DATA HAS BEEN COLLECTED WITH BIG DATA”
Assistant Professor Dr. Yücel Batu Salman, the Director of Istanbul Big Data Education and Research Center of Bahçeşehir University, explaining that after the entrance of the Internet into our lives, people are also important data sources with the photographs and videos that they share in social media, said “Big Data is a very important research branch in today’s world. In addition, several large-scale data has started to be collected with that.
After the entrance of the Internet into our lives, people have become a source for data. It is observed that there is a huge data transfer on the social media. However, the datum should be made meaningful and analyzed. In our university, the Master’s Program in Big Data Analytics and Managements in the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences has been continuing its works with its one-hundred students. Accordingly, we are trying to raise labor force that can combine the lectures given by academicians and the professionals especially from the sector with theory and practice.”
“WE AIM TO DEVELOP THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY AND INDUSTRY”
Assist. Prof. Dr. Salman, referring that there is the need of labor force who can use technology and they want to create a collaboration between universities and industry, stated that“ One of the basic reasons why we, as Bahçeşehir University, are pioneer of big data is to be able to raise this labor force. Some subjects such as big data, cyber security and industry 4.0 come into prominence as subject which are very new and ready to be applied.
In addition to this, we needed a center where we can make researches, develop implications, and conduct projects. Our center, established in this regard, will start to be used as both an educational center where especially students can practice and as a research center where we can conduct projects.
We aim to make Big Data a center that can develop new products and technology and satisfy different complicated questions.”
