Bahcesehir University (BAU) Cyber Security Center was opened for growing up expert labor for providing cyber security necessary for online systems and for giving consultancy to the companies in security gaps.
The fact that the technology develops rapidly and enters every side of our lives increases our productivities and eases our lives as well as enlarges the activity fields of malicious people and crime organizations. Leakages in the computer systems create great material losses for individuals, companies and institutions. Qualified labor in this area has been a requirement for both the institutions and the states due to the cyber attacks which also threaten the national security. It is thought that there will be 21 billion online devices in 2020, 88 percent of the companies' employees are not aware on cyber security, the cyber security economy will be 6 trillion dollars in 2121 and the cost of the cyber attacks for the countries will reach 400 billion dollars. According to the results obtained from the observations on data violations and cyber attack lists as of September 2017, it was reported that 174 million records were leaked.
In Bahcesehir University (BAU) Cyber Security Center, activities will be carried out for protection of information, increase of awareness on "cyber security" and presentation of the professional training. In addition to the measures to be taken against cyber threats and attacks in online systems, it will be possible to learn by trying, touching, seeing and watching with help of the infrastructure reinforced with the hardware and the software created in Bahcesehir University's (BAU) laboratory. Many training scenario created in the virtualized machines will provide better adoption and permanency of the training.
Bahcesehir University's (BAU) Rector Prof. Dr. Senay Yalcin, who spoke in the opening of Cyber Security Center, said that the speed and development of the scientific and technologic works shorten the social transformation process and the process which started with the post graduate works transform into technologies which can be used in first and preliminary schools in a short time. Yalcin also emphasized that one of the most important fields of this transformation is the "information technologies" field which consists of use of "information" and "communication" technologies together. Bahcesehir University's (BAU) Rector Prof. Dr. Senay Yalcin who emphasized that the concept of "Cyber Security" is in our lives just like a living system mentioned that they believe they will make great contributions to our National Security by giving trainings, making projects and producing practical post graduate thesis in cyber attack field which continuously renews itself and also named as the fifth dimension. Prof. Dr. Senay Yalcin, mentioning that we face a great treat as country, individuals and society, said "For dealing with this treat, we need to detect the cyber attacks with early warning systems, to identify and represent these treats, fight with the represented treats and protect our systems while carrying out all of these processes."
