The International Hrant Dink Foundation, in collaboration with the HAYCAR Architects and Engineers Mutual Benefit Association, presents the exhibit "The Armenian Architects of a Westernizing Istanbul opening on Wednesday the 13th of April at Bahçeşehir University.
The life story of 40 Armenian architects living in Istanbul at the beginning of the 20th century will be presented at the exhibit; photographs and a brief historical account of buildings of their design will also be on display. The exhibit, put together by researcher and curator Hasan Kuruyazıcı after combing the streets of Kurtuluş, Pangaltı, Taksim, Cihangir, Eminönü, and Mahmutpaşa, will remain open until the 30th of April.
The aim of the exhibit is to revive interest the works of these forgotten Armenian architects who have added modern touches to the skyline of Istanbul; and to shine an educational light on the recent history of Istanbul.
The exhibit opens on Wednesday the 13th of April, 2011 at 5 pm in the main entrance of Bahçeşehir University.
