Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan visited Bahçeşehir University as a guest speaker in a conference entitled “2023: Turkey’s 100th Year Vision,” which was joint hosted by the Bahçeşehir University School of Government and Leadership and the Turkiyem Foundation.
Babacan referred to 2023 as more than just a hundred-year anniversary of the Republic; instead, it is a year in which “...We plan on being among the world’s top ten economies, and in setting this goal, we have conducted an analysis of the all of the world’s countries.”
“THE CRISIS HAS SET US BACK”
In his speech, Babacan said that the global economic crisis, “whose effects first became apparent to us at the end of 2008, has affected all countries. There are two distinct periods: pre- and post-crisis. This crisis has been a milestone for everyone, but it has also created opportunities for us to achieve our goals. European nations’ pre- and post-crisis expectations are quite different. This change has leveled the playing field for Turkey. The only investment that will level the playing field for Turkey is an investment in education. Our chief goal is therefore to invest in education. There is now at least one university in every Turkish city.”
