‘ Designing for the Circular Economy ' Workshop will be held on 1 April 2017 Saturday between 09:30 – 17:30 at BAU North Campus, Model Shop. Students who want to take part in the workshop may contact to Assoc.Prof. Bengü Uluengin.
It is a 1-day intensive design workshop where students will explore the principles of the circular economy, or as it is often referred to, cradle to cradle (C2C) design. C2C is a biomimetic approach to the design of products and systems. Rather than adopting a linear, produce-use-throw away approach to product and building design, it introduces an economic, industrial and social framework that seeks to create systems which are not only efficient but also essentially waste free. By reutilizing ‘waste’ products and reintroducing them into the production cycle, the concept of waste is eliminated. When a C2C product ends its useful life, its parts go either back to the factory (to be reassembled into new products), or go to nature, essentially becoming food for organisms.
Each year, the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute organizes a design competition geared towards the development of effective and efficient products, designs, and architectural materials embodying the principles of the circular economy. Workshop participants are encouraged to enter this competition, and are guided by the workshop organizer in this regard.
