Mission Statement
BAU -CHSPS advances research and knowledge to prevent risky behavior among the young people and to improve the mental health of all the people and particularly lives of those affected with or by substance abuse. By application of social science and public health research paradigms and by combining social sciences with neurosciences, the team will study how risky behavior is developed and how substance abuse, sexual behavior and mental health are related to psycho-social factors, and to stigma and discrimination. It will train the future generation of behavioral and public health researchers who combine social sciences and neurosciences, and work with community partners to conduct theoretical and applied research and to develop preventive practices against drug abuse and sexually transmitted disease.
The group of multidisciplinary faculty and staff at CHSPS will envision, develop and enact research with and for the groups under various risks and the communities under study. Multidisciplinary faculty and staff are the members of Psychology and Sociology departments, and members of Faculty of Education and Faculty of Medicine.
Vision Statement
The Center for Health, Society and Prevention Studies (CHSPS) at Bahçeşehir University aims to be a leading risky behavior and substance disorder, mental health and HIV research center that is focused on the well-being of all people with particular attention to the youth. It will also advance studies on what kind of silences and articulations are at play in health promotion, prevention and policy and why? It will train the future generation of behavioral and public health researchers who combine social sciences and neurosciences, and work with community partners to conduct theoretical and applied research and to develop preventive practices against drug abuse and sexually transmitted disease. It will also train music and dance therapists in order to help those suffering from various types of mental health problems.
