Program Content
Interior architecture involves designing the spaces where human life unfolds and shaping the experiences within them. While designing spaces that respond to functional and user requirements, interior architects prioritize well-being, safety, and health. They enable users to establish perceptual and conceptual connections with their surroundings, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose.
Our Department provides education with the awareness of the importance of training future interior architects who adopt a design approach that respects social rights, cultural connections, and nature; who can effectively utilize technology in professional practice; and who recognize the significance of sustainability, responsible use of resources, and the preservation of the balance of the natural environment—key issues of both today and the future. In addition, the Department aims to educate graduates who are aware of national and international values in architecture, design, and art, who possess professional ethics, and who demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility.
International Opportunities and Extracurricular Activities
Our primary objective is to educate creative, productive, and self-confident professionals by providing an educational environment that enables our students to engage with national and international educational and professional organizations throughout their university experience (bilateral agreements, ERASMUS, BAUGlobal, and Dual Up); by offering opportunities to participate in numerous domestic and international summer and winter schools (Japan, Spain, Italy, Macedonia, the United States, Austria); by conducting projects in collaboration with local administrations (Beşiktaş Municipality, Bahçelievler Municipality, the Chamber of Interior Architects of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Cultural Heritage Preservation Board); by supporting interdisciplinary collaboration; and by maintaining alignment between our program and global developments.
Career Opportunities (What Do Interior Architecture Graduates Do?)
Our graduates may pursue careers in accordance with their interests and abilities as designers in domestic and international interior architecture or architecture offices; as project managers or site supervisors at interior architecture or architectural construction sites; as designers in furniture design offices and workshops; and as interior architects in material, kitchen, and bathroom design and production offices.
Graduates interested in academic careers and education may continue their studies in graduate and doctoral programs both domestically and internationally, and pursue academic careers as interior architects in the fields of interior architecture, architecture, or industrial design at universities. In addition, many interior architects establish their own design offices through the design education they receive and their entrepreneurial approaches, or engage in activities within various branches of art.
