Mission of the Department
Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Industrial Design, using and developing leading educational methodologies with interdisciplinary and innovative initiatives, aims to produce professionals who use technology to contribute to the development of society. consider the well-being and benefit of human kind and the environment following the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations, have a global perspective in problem solving while respecting local values, cultural differences, individual and social rights, and universal design principles.
DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL DESIGN PROGRAM OUTCOMES
PO 1: Having the theoretical and practical knowledge proficiency in the discipline of industrial product design.
PO 2: Applying professional knowledge to the fields of product, service, and experience design development.
PO 3: Understanding, using, interpreting, and evaluating the design concepts, knowledge, and language.
PO 4: Knowing the research methods in the discipline of industrial product design, collecting information with these methods, and interpreting and applying the collected knowledge.
PO 5: Identifying the problems of industrial product design, evaluating the conditions and requirements of the problems, and producing proposals for solutions to the problems.
PO 6: Developing the solutions with the consideration of social, cultural, environmental, economic, and humanistic values; being sensitive to personal differences and ability levels.
PO 7: Using computer aided information and communication technologies for the expression of industrial product design solutions and applications.
PO 8: Having the ability of communicating the knowledge about design concepts and solutions through written, oral and visual methods.
PO 9: Identifying and applying the relation among material, form giving, detailing, maintenance, and manufacturing methods of design solutions.
PO 10: Having the knowledge and methods in disciplines like management, engineering, psychology, ergonomics, and visual communication that support the solutions of industrial product design; having the ability of searching, acquiring, and using the knowledge that belongs to these disciplines when necessary.
PO 11: Using a foreign language to command the jargon of industrial product design and communicate with colleagues from different cultures.
PO 12: Following and evaluating new topics and trends that industrial product design needs to integrate according to technological and scientific developments.
DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
Industrial Design is a strategic problem solving process that drives innovative design, business success, and better living conditions with innovative products, systems, services, and experiences.
The application areas of industrial designers comprise various industries such as product design, system design, service design, and experience design. Product design includes topics such as furniture, transportation design, packaging, electronic devices, electrical tools, medical devices, investment products, home and office equipment, exhibition stands, lighting instruments, play and toys, products for babies and children, personal care products, sport equipment, and jewellery design. System Design includes systems combining products and services, product life-cycle design, visual identity design for product series, retail design, and visual design for exhibitions, museums, and other events. Service Design includes topics such as application of products and systems into services, design of service process, mapping for customer experience, and design of service presentation.
Experience Design includes user interface design, user experience design, and interaction design. Industrial designers can work in all private companies and social institutions as well as a design consultancy firm of their own related to these areas in application, research and development, audit and controllership, consultancy, expertise, and education. Candidates who are attracted to this profession are expected to have abilities in critical thinking and perception, analyzing, restructuring, building empathy, thinking in the third dimension, and processing.
