The Academy of Local Governments

The Bahçeşehir University School of Government and Leadership organizes programs, seminars and projects and aims to develop the leaders of the future and familiarize participants with important issues in todays world. As an institution that made it its mission to develop qualified individuals who can be successful in any level of politics and decision making bodies, the School of Government and Leadership has begun exploring the field of local governance with the Academy of Local Governments Certificate Program. The program was first held in the 2010-2011 academic year and is projected to be held every academic year.

The Goal of the Program
 

The positive developments in the mentality of local governance in our country have been supported by structural reforms. The School of Government and Leadership welcomes this change and stresses the importance of having efficient local governments. The School of Government and Leadership sees local governments as the most important driving force for national development. Believing that education is the most effective way of embracing change and that knowledge changes constantly in today’s society, the School of Government and Leadership aims to hold this certificate program every academic year.

The  Academy of Local Governments certificate program is held so that participants who want to take part in local governments can be well-educated and have more knowledge and experience about their professions. 

About the Program

The Academy of Local Governments certificate program takes place 10am to 5:45pm on every Saturday for six weeks. The lectures are given in Turkish. Every week, high level bureucrats in local governments, academics and mayors share with the participants their knowledge, experiences and opinions. At the end of each of the four lectures, there is a Q&A session where participants can ask their questions to the speakers. Participants who complete the program successfully are given certificates. In order to be eligible to receive a certificate a participant must attend at least 80% of the lectures. The program takes place on the Bahçeşehir University Beşiktaş Campus.
