School of Politics USA Certificate Program
School of Politics USA is the first of the international field study programs organized by Bahçeşehir University American Studies Center and has been held regularly, every academic year since the 2006-2007 academic year. The School of Politics USA certificate program takes place in the capital of the United States of America, Washington DC.
The Goal of the Program
The goal of the School of Politics USA certificate program is to inform participants about the political system and foreign policy of one of the most important factors in Turkish foreign policy – the United States. In this regard, the program aims to consolidate knowledge about U.S. Foreign Policy and U.S. Political System with objective and trustworthy data. Also, improving bilateral relations and cooperation is another goal of the program.
About the Program
In the School of Politics USA certificate program, the U.S. House of Representatives, institutes, think-tanks, the media, lobbies and various businesses are visited. In these meetings, the political, economic and social policies of the United States, as well as foreign policy are discussed in an interactive format. The information collected and the opinions shared with the participants in the extent of School of Politics America certificate program with the specialist of the topics and the authorities in the decision making mechanisms become an unforgettable experience for them. The effect of this experience in the decisions which will be made and taken on the return to their countries is a distinctive feature, creating a constant gain inside the program itself. The language of the certificate program which takes place for 10 to 14 days is English. Turkish translation is given during the meetings. Likewise, participant questions about the topic are answered at the end of each meeting in coordination with the chairman of the meeting during the questions and answers part. Participants are given certificates that they have attended program at the end.
Contents of the Program
Meetings about the issues such as the gravity of lobbies in the US, the systematic differences of legislative, executive and judicial powers, the balance of power between the Senate and the House of Representatives, the function of the President, formation of decision making process during the flow of the system, the effect of lobbies and non-governmental organizations to the domestic and foreign policy are made during the program. Official institutions such as US Senate, House of Representatives, Supreme Court of US, and US Congress alongside with many think-tank organizations are visited and get informed about their functions.
