About Music Technology
DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC TECHNOLOGY
Today, music technologies encompass fields such as audio engineering, music production, music information retrieval application design, sound interaction, sonic arts, and musical acoustics. The ability to produce auditory media—one of the most essential components of continuously evolving media channels—on a scientific foundation is becoming increasingly important.
MISSION AND VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC TECHNOLOGY
The Department of Music Technology at the Bahçeşehir University Conservatory structures its curriculum around the stages of music production—recording, sound editing, mixing, and mastering—and aims to educate graduates who adopt the principles of sound physics and audio processing from both theoretical and practical perspectives. By combining foundational coursework with electives aligned with students’ areas of specialization, the program aims to enable students to evaluate sound technologies according to both musical and engineering criteria and to develop projects accordingly.
The Undergraduate Program in Music Technology aims to provide graduates with comprehensive knowledge of music production stages; the operational systems of recording, mixing, mastering, and post-production studios; the principles and techniques of sound physics and audio processing; and their applications in contemporary digital and analog systems. The program seeks to develop advanced proficiency in the software tools used in the field and to cultivate the vision and competence to develop projects in areas such as sound-based interaction design, digital instrument design, sonic arts application and design, music information retrieval application design, spatial audio mixing, and musical acoustics. The program also aims to equip students with the ability to follow continuously evolving music and audio transmission media and to deliver production applications under appropriate conditions.
Students who successfully complete the Department of Music Technology may pursue careers in fields such as music, live sound systems, musical application design, sound design for visual media, and musical acoustics. The live sound systems sector offers positions in sound engineering and live recording engineering for concerts and performances. With the expansion of research topics in music technology, sectors such as interaction- and education-based musical application design are developing and offering new professional opportunities and areas of employment.
