This is the fourth Conference of Paradigmatic City Conferences. The previous conferences were held in Lisbon (2015), Budapest (2016) and Venice (2017).
The previous three conferences has covered core issues and capitalized on significant concepts related to city identity. The Paradigmatic City (I) : Origins, Avatars, Frontiers (Universidade Nova de Lisboa) looked at the diachronic evolution of cities of great repute in European culture. The Paradigmatic City (II): Capitals and Their Successors (Eotvos Lorand Egyetem, Budapest) presented instance of nation-building and capital city culture in modern history. The Paradigmatic City (III): Customs and Costumes (Università Ca' Foscari, Venezia) investigated identity from a collective sartorial angle, with costumes condensing the national spirit, while reinforcing customs of distinct longevity in city culture(s).
